Today we’d like to introduce you to Janie Sloan.
Hi Janie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Being in the entertainment field started off as a very long dream that became deferred because of the lack of resources and support. The lack of support came merely because I kept that dream to myself. Where I was from, no one really made it in acting or music. But as I got older, that started changing, so I found a way to pursue my dream. I took a couple of acting classes just so I could build a foundation. I started out as an extra on a few indie films, then I received two speaking roles on the show Fatal Attraction. But then God showed me that I’m a writer and that I should not be auditioning for projects people should be auditioning for mines. So I began writing. I started out writing Christian comedy skits that lead to a tv sitcom and then I was asked by a producer to write a film on domestic violence and stalking so I wrote the film “Take A Stan” which is now airing worldwide on Tubi, Amazon, VUDU, Hoopla and FANDANGONOW. I also wrote another film titled, Despise Not, My Youth.” Which will air on the same platforms and more in 2022. And if the Lord willing there will be more to come!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yeah, it was kind of a smooth road, the only bump is having an experienced crew to help and that requires money. So I was always short-staffed but we always make it work!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well I was a Private Duty Nurse for ten years working with people with respiratory issues but then God removed me from that field so I can use my gifts to glorify him. So now I spend my time giving haircuts for free which gives me more flexibility in pursuing my passion which is Writing and Directing Christian films. I’m most proud of my short film “Power of Prayer” which is streaming on “4 streams on demand” and I’m proud of my upcoming film “Despise Not, My Youth.” Those films are what sets me apart from others. And what I mean by others I mean other Christian filmmakers. I don’t sugarcoat the true gospel of Jesus Christ. I address issues that most people tend to avoid for the sake of their film may not appear Christianlike. We have people that experience being addicted to sins that’s keeping them from getting closer to God, like drugs, sex, and alcohol. Now, although my films don’t show any sexual encounters, I address them and give the audience that illusion. But I also show how God brought them out of that situation.
Any big plans?
My plans is to continue serving God and creating projects that glorifies Him and encourage people to want to change their lifestyle for the better.
