Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Activist.
Hi Jay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up on the Southside of Atlanta which is where things began. I started recording music in high school which is where I started to build buzz, then when I started at Kennesaw State in 2021, things started to take off. Through doing open mics and multiple college concerts I started to grow a name around Atlanta. In 2024, I’d get the chance to audition for Rhythm & Flow S2 and despite not making it, my network and credibility continued to grow.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Initially it was definitely a rough road figuring everything out. I didn’t have any family members or mentors around me to help me navigate jumpstarting my career. This led to a few bad investments but I consider them lessons. I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue college for the purpose of getting into the music industry which turned out to be the best route I could’ve taken, especially being in the music business program at Kennesaw State University.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Im an Artist, but I would say I do a versatile style of Hip-Hop. Artists like Drake, Future, Cole, and Smino are some of my influences so thats where I would put my sound in. One of the things im most proud of is selling almost 100 tickets to my own show called the Actifest back in 2023. What I would say sets me apart from others is how I approach my melodies and definitely my stage presence. I’ve stepped on stages where no one knows me and walked off of stage with many more people that wanna follow me on my journey.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I didn’t have a shy bone in my body till I got to middle school. From then on I was only really extroverted around my friends until I broke out of that in college. Im also a former basketball player which was from Elementary School, to my senior year of High School. People always used to tell me I was wise beyond my years and it made sense, because growing up the youngest, I got to study the mistakes of my siblings which helped me navigate life.
