Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Conze.
Jay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I often say my career had a late but auspicious start. After taking the wrong path as an adolescent and being forced to navigate complex legal and financial realities far too early, I learned that adversity can be a powerful education.
My professional foundation was built at North Carolina A&T State University. The HBCU environment gave me the space to test my ability to navigate institutions, build influence, and leverage people and resources to scale quickly—skills that have defined my trajectory ever since.
I began in business development at General Motors, then transitioned into tech with the world’s largest chipmaker at the time. From there, I used my ability to move across verticals to break into biotech with no prior experience, ultimately becoming Head of Strategy for Japan and Asia Pacific at the world’s largest biotech research and healthcare data organizations within three years.
Today, I serve as Director of the Healthcare Research Institute for the world’s largest retailer, while independently operating a consultancy that supports multinational health organizations with market access across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Adversity is education is my theme. Adversity has come early and often and all those struggles served as lessons. From juvenile delinquency, to the death of both my parents from cancer. It created 4 singular truths that shape my approach to life::
1-We suffer more from how we feel about what happens to us than what’s actually happened.
2-Everything in life has a purpose, even the things that should’ve never happened.
3-People are constantly communicating fear or desire, that’s why listening is so powerful
4-Discipline will give you everything you want out of life and remove anything and anyone you don’t need.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In my current scope as a senior executive in healthcare research my role is to connect rural and urban underserved communities with greater healthcare access and options for transformative healthcare research opportunities that can improve the duration and quality of their lives.
As Owner and Operator of Nuesalter Consultancy, I bring a distinct ability to navigate competing priorities across complex economic, political, cultural, and regulatory landscapes. I distill ambiguity into a small set of high‑leverage decisions that reveal strategic opportunity, strengthen revenue stability, and consistently move clients and partners toward growth while reducing exposure to risk.
While I’m not a doctor or scientist if I make the best decisions I play my part in creating an environment where at minimum someone can potentially get more time with someone they love.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m covered in tattoos
I studied acting at a theatre conservatory
I meditate for at least one hour daily
