Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Baptist.
Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my business in California where I was born and raised; I started my business in 2016. I am mainly self-taught and have attended many other classes to further my education in the beauty industry performing freelance work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the struggles I faced along the way was building up a steady clientele in an industry that has become very overly saturated especially in California. In ATL my main struggle was getting to know people and building my clientele up in a fast-paced environment and also one of the biggest beauty capitals in the world. Entrepreneurship is being pushed to your limits and a very challenging but rewarding experience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a freelance artist, my main specialty started off with me just doing lash extensions. However, I’ve always been talented and able to provide my own beauty services such as hair, nails, makeup, etc. beauty is my specialty and I love making women feel beautiful when they leave my chair they leave with a boost in confidence/ self-esteem and that’s the most rewarding part of my job making women look and feel their absolute best. I now offer services doing individual lash extensions which I have been two times certified.
I do hair extension services. I offer nail extension/press-on services. And I offer full glam/ makeup services as well. I am most proud of taking a leap of faith and extending my services from California to Atlanta it has been a hard road but I never gave up because I believed in myself and my clients believed in me too.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like Atlanta for the opportunities they give to many young black entrepreneurs. I dislike the fact that many of those entrepreneurs don’t open doors for other artists as well and there’s plenty of opportunity out here for all of us.
