Today we’d like to introduce you to Jireh Smith.
Hi Jireh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my magazine with one goal, to shine a light on creatives I felt didn’t receive enough credit. At first, I became known for my style, as I posted fit pics on Instagram. I’ve always had connections to artists & other creatives in the area, so I figured ‘Why not use my social media presence to help recognize them?’. With my combined love for the arts (journalism, music & fashion), I birthed The 4rchives Magazine in early 2023. From there, my peers began to seek guidance concerning their projects & everything went up from there. I don’t really put a title on myself because I can do it all. This includes, but is not limited to modeling, graphic design, creative direction & video editing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. I’ve encountered adversity relating to the reliability of potential models, push-back from family & friends because they felt I should pursue a career with more stability & of course, the underlying doubt that I might not be successful. Throughout it all, I’ve reassured myself this is the path destined for me. I know I’m meant for something greater than the average lifestyle & that has been my main motivation.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I run The 4rchives Magazine, which is simply an aspiring advertisement agency. I specialize in conducting photoshoots & write-up interviews. I also offer styling, creative direction, graphics & website design services. I’m most proud of my recent drop, the SS23 Editorial. I worked on it for six months up to date & I’m extremely grateful for the entire process, mistakes & all. My goal is to shine a light on those around me, not myself & that’s what sets me apart. In an age where everyone is concerned with promoting themselves, I use my platform to promote those around me. I only work with creatives that I know on a personal or semi-personal level. My videographer, photographers & any other creative featured in my work are people I consider close peers. I know my success will come naturally, so that’s why I’m hyper-focused on giving reverence to other creatives.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite magazines are, but not limited to, Paper Magazine & VOGUE. I took the structure of how they work & put my own twist on it.
