Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Frometa.
Hi Joel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was introduced to the film industry almost two years ago. When I was still working in a very competitive corporate world, every day I wondered what was meant for me. Although I knew I was meant to be on a stage, I could never quite pinpoint what that stage looked like.
I took on public speaking, hosting classroom settings for employees in need of additional learning, all the while curious with a burning need to perform. I encountered a group of friends who already worked in this industry and were eager to share their experiences and connect me to a network of others who would share knowledge and tips to assist me in building my acting career.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey has definitely been a bumpy road. The cost of chasing your dreams can be overwhelming at times. Financially, it is difficult because you have to be open to taking gigs with little to no pay for the sake of the art or to build a portfolio that showcases your ability as an artist. The money may not rain in right away, but the toughest challenge is presented by those closest to you.
Sometimes family members or close friends, who may want to protect you from failure or delusion, try to unintentionally derail your desire to chase your dream. This takes a strong and dedicated mindset that is meant to withstand opposition. You must hone in and focus on your drive and dedication, and remind yourself what you are seeking to manifest in your life. I knew I was meant to be bigger than the career I was excelling in, so I am now on my journey to be the biggest in the career that I am destined for.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Latin American actor, born in the Dominican Republic, who is bilingual in English and Spanish. I’m based out of the New York area where I am fortunate to be surrounded by so many creative minds. I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of a number of projects that have really challenged me as an artist.
I’ve gone from playing a villain who takes pleasure in menacing others, to a misguided boyfriend who just can’t balance the pressure of love. The possibilities of the roles and characters that you get to represent in a film is extremely exciting and a major reason why I love what I do. I am most recently known for my first lead role in a film named, “I Know The End” written by Aylin Marsella. This film is set to be released this spring.
Any big plans?
My mind has gears that never stop turning and the engine in my heart is always keeping me on the move. When you find yourself in such a fast-paced industry, you have to be willing to put in the work regardless of the size of the reward at that particular time. You have to embrace that hunger for success and never steer away from your urge to make it to great lengths.
That is why my goal is to find myself working on high-budgeted projects with well-known artists who can push me to the next level. I’ve also challenged myself as a screenwriter and have already begun creating multiple scripts for future projects with other talented artists. I’d like to collaborate with people all over the country to strengthen that web amongst actors that allow us to feed off one another. I love seeing people in my field succeed as much as their dreams and dedication allow them to.
