Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua B Morgan.
Hi Joshua, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello, I am Joshua B. and I am a content creator & personal stylist out of Atlanta, Ga. My style journey began in 2017 when I moved to Atlanta, Ga and stepped foot on the campus of Georgia State University. Due to being in the heart of downtown ATL, I was surrounded by different people and cultures where I was able to see fashion thrive throughout the city. Although, it wasn’t until I was introduced to my fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., GQ Zeta Mu Chapter, where I saw men dressed well 24/7. After I became a member of my organization, my life was changed for the better. I was taught the do’s and don’ts of fashion from a business standpoint. Of course, this didn’t change overnight but once I was able to get a hold of it, I was able to become successful. The more I learned the more I became curious about fashion. I would research notable designers and learn about their brand’s history to see how they became who they are today. Also, I learned the importance of image and how it translates to other people.Which leads me to where I am now, I’ve collaborated and partnered with over 100+ brands from Express, Walmart, Timex and Krystal to just name a few. Now I’m able to teach people how to dress for the occasion and cater themselves in different settings in order for them to become the best version of themselves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth but it has been a journey worthwhile. Once I came to a major city like Atlanta, GA I realized quickly what clothes were or were not in style. What might be acceptable in one city may not get you the results you want in another. There were a lot of times where I witnessed trial and error, but it was necessary to grow. Although, it’s important for one to learn their personal style and not compare themselves to what others are wearing, just because it’s trendy doesn’t mean it looks good. Also, I realized that investing in quality pieces of clothing is what makes all the difference. I tend to focus on the durability of the item and how it fits on your body. Oftentimes, we try to follow style trends but forget that trends cater to certain body types and demographics.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in helping men fine-tune their personal brand and image. Image consists of four different categories which I call,“ the ABCDs of Image.” Appearance, behavior, communication, and digital footprint. Not only do I shift their approach on when they view a certain piece; I am able to help provide guidance on the purchasing decision of an item, allowing them to choose a piece of clothing that would last a long time. I tell my clients to only purchase quality clothing, quality doesn’t always mean designer but it’s a piece of fabric or material that can be interchangeable in multiple settings. Although, there are certain brands or items that are conversation starters in certain settings. Once we have your appearance down, we then start to work on your behavior, verbal and nonverbal communication. I believe your clothes speak for you, now it’s important that your words match your style. I also help my clients improve their etiquette in multiple settings. Once that is done, we can translate that information online, expanding to a broader audience. At the moment, I am most proud of my work that I’ve done with different brands and knowing that people are able to take away tips from the content I create.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
So I would be the first one to tell you that I used to be one of the worst-dressed people EVER. I didn’t know anything about the difference between fabrics, sizing, textures you name it. But now I’m glad that I came a long way and now that I think about it, it wasn’t the fact that I couldn’t dress; I just didn’t have the money while growing up to match my sense of style. I didn’t think I would be where I am today, but I know God has a calling for my life, I just have to follow his plan.
