Daily Inspiration: Meet Kai Cash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kai Cash.

Hi Kai, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m from Brooklyn, NY and just made my way out to the A in 2019. I was born into a musically inclined family on both sides. My mother used to sing and has an immaculate ear and taste for great music, and my dad was a part of Junior MAFIA, more of a background guy nonetheless he was and still highly tapped into the industry. Growing up and living with my mom I was exposed to so many great artists and various genres of music as per when I was with my dad, he would always have me around the artists, I would spend my weekends at Lil’ Kim’s house with my cousin Dame (@dame.up). As the years progressed, I learned how to record myself and really locked into music in its entirety with the assistance of my older cousin/brother (@brovalace) who was into producing as well as writing. My uncle (on mom’s side) lived in a basement that was always up to date with technology, and with me being the young, inquisitive one in the basement, I learned how to use the technology to my advantage. My older cousin wrote me my first rhyme, we recorded many songs, and from there I fell in love with actually rapping and making music. Being in school made me expand my vocabulary (of course) and experiences in my day to day life gave me things to actually rap about. I made my first song when I was seven years old in the Bronx, after sneaking out there from Brooklyn with the same cousin that wrote my first rhyme (still have the audio file in my email) and music has been my thing ever since.

I’ve always been a fan of the arts, if I wasn’t writing music I was drawing or learning how to edit on iMovie, which to me was BIG at the time. Growing up and experiencing more and more life showed me greater things. My uncle D Roc (Biggie’s best friend) had come home in about 2009 and played a huge part in me getting back into being around the music in a physical way. With him being the uncle to not only me, but Christian (@kingcombs), Niko (@nikobrim), and pretty much everyone else in CYN besides Dame, he built the foundation for what CYN has become to be when he brought us all together for the first of many summers in ’09. CYN is the group that we (the names listed above + more) started in the summer of 2013 during one of our annual summer camp(ish) trips amongst the family. I was always the rapper of the pack, dropping music on Soundcloud as early as 2014, which truly developed me as an artist. From the 1st drop to my most recent project “CA$H: The Elegant Fella” I’ve been both consistent and persistent with creating and releasing music as well as growing as an artist. Though I’ve endured trials and tribulations, I’m not one that gives up and I’ve seen many successes within my music career. The life I’ve lived and the things I’ve achieved got me where I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Eh, I wouldn’t consider it smooth, but I’m a proactive person, I like to figure out what the next best solution is when a problem occurs, rather than move out of reaction and allow things to get to me in a bad way, that just throws off the vibes and kills the energy. Some of the struggles along the way have been breaking through and becoming a powerful player, coming from such a profound legacy and figuring out how to be better than what that is (which isn’t easy at all), and most importantly showing that I’ve been able to do things on my own and that I’m here based off my talent and my character, nothing I’ve got was handed to me, I’ve been blessed of course, but everything was earned and deserved, to this very day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist by the name of Kai Ca$h, I’ve been rapping for damn near my entire life, I’ve been blessed to work and release music with the likes of Pusha T, King Combs, and Chris Brown to name a few. I take much pride in my craft, I’m very passionate and I love what I do. My pen is incredible and so is my ability to actually create a SONG, lol. I’m mostly proud of myself because I’ve been able to achieve everything I put my mind to and I will continue to do that by the grace of God. I’m known for my wordplay, my style, and of course the records I’ve put out so far, with the most famous one to date being “The West ft. King Combs & 03 Greedo”. What sets me apart from others would have to be my style in itself, I like to describe it as “exquisite simplicity”, it’s unique in various ways but it’s simple.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I know this may sound cliché but my best piece(s) of advice to those just starting out would be: 1. Stay consistent in whatever you do, 2. Be yourself, always! 3. Do NOT ever give up, 4. Believe in yourself. Only thing I would say I wish I knew when I was coming up is how important it is to grow your network and utilize it, knowing the right people is everything, especially when the relationships are truly genuine.
