Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Blair
Hi Kat, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a Kansas City native, and that’s where I started my career as a braider. I was just a small kid when I learned to do hair because I grew up in a family of hairstylists and an amazing dad who owned hair salons and who was a Master Cosmetologist. I started making money from doing hair when I was 10 years old, and would do a lot of friends and family for practice. I braided hair throughout high school too, but college was when I started getting into extensions, which took me to a whole new level! I went to cosmetology school in 2017, after I had already been doing hair for many years. I hated it and dropped out. I went back to cosmetology school in 2018 and graduated in 2019. School is where I discovered my love for natural hair. I am now licensed in the state of Missouri, Kansas, and Georgia. I moved to Atlanta in 2021 and I’ve built an amazing clientele filled with dynamic woman here and I’ve gotten the chance to work with some of the best brands in the industry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Nah. Considering how many times I’ve moved around – Kansas City, MO to Manhattan, KS to Springfield, MO to Houston, TX, and now Atlanta, GA. It takes a lot of discipline and determination to rebuild your clientele everywhere you go. Sometimes it can take longer than expected for clients to come and I’ve had to make that money stretch until my next client. Sometimes you have to take free clients just so you can get content and put your name out there. Sometimes your content doesn’t get as many views as I’d like. Thankfully, I’m booked and busy now! I’ve grown my IG to almost 20k organically and I’m proud of that. I’m grateful for the journey though; I wouldn’t change anything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Master Cosmetologist that specializes in natural hair maintenance including silk presses, natural styling, trims, and color. I am known for being the stylist who truly cares about the health of your hair, as well as providing a professional and timely experience for my clients. Sometimes, that is hard to come by in Atlanta! I’m most proud of the transformations and hair growth that happen in my chair because my clients take my advice, remain consistent, and are doing the work to get their hair to its healthiest state. I love seeing their confidence grow while being a client of mine.
