Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedi Sinclair.
Hi Kennedi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I first moved to Atlanta, I had completely different plans for my personal and professional life. Nothing happened as expected! By summer of 2022, I had quit my job, and a month later was faced with a few unpredictable ultimatums. Without going too deep in detail, the smile I carried was nothing compared to the baggage on my back. In the midst of feeling very very lost, I started doing some soul-searing. Going back to the simple things that brought me joy and just overall peace. I started by making sure I always got myself flowers during my grocery runs. Even on a budget you have to spoil yourself! My monthly self-care turned into my mini-empire. I started secretly posting flowers from a different Instagram page as a “mood board”. My Instagram algorithm swiftly turned into a florist paradise, and my creating let loose. It turned into a few friends asking if I was taking orders, to celebrity clients dm’ing to book and now a storefront in the heart of the city. It’s so funny how the things we plan and map out for ourselves are nothing compared to God plans for us.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I always say nothing worth having comes easy and nothing easy is worth having (sometimes!). The biggest challenge hasn’t been customers or lack thereof, thank God! It’s mainly been staying focused, dedicated, humble and innovative. I feel as though all entrepreneurs’ biggest completion or challenge is themselves. Being a small business oftentimes my vision is bigger than my budget. I learned to all lead with the end goal in mind and to never ever get too caught up in not having it all together right away.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to consider myself as, Atlanta’s Preferred Florist! I specialize is modern floral design, bouquet creation (custom or freestyle), teaching upcoming florists and I dabble in event decor. I think I’m most known for the floral options I provide and the vast variety of colorways I can achieve. As a small business that’s still under a year old, I’m just proud of the community I’ve built. Her Perfect Petal has the best community and the most loyal customers! While I “just sell flowers”, it’s always been more than “just flowers”. What sets HPP apart is knowing that there is a difference.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Fortunately, we weren’t founded during that time. But being proactive instead of reactive is always a major level of awareness for businesses.
