Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Westfield.
Hi Kennedy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My music talents started as a kid randomly free-styling with my older brother. This eventually turned into watching youtube videos on battle rap as a young teen. Occasionally free-styling on my school bus , our football team locker room, I would rap in my chorus class in middle school whenever our teacher left the room and wrote poems often. This all was put on pause after I got arrested for the first time and I started writing music. A repeated jail cycle , life struggles and stories from others made me realize I could help others from my music and that’s when I wrote “ I swear” one night in my bunk. The day I got out I went to the studio and the rest is history.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is never honestly smooth and especially not in the route I’m taking with music. The industry is oversaturated and it’s more of a popularity contest instead of glorifying who’s making good music with substance. I’m definitely a person who keeps to themselves and having to show everyone who I am and why I make the music I do has been a journey. Getting older having more responsibility does take away time from the craft but I still find a way to please myself and my supporters.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an independent artist /photographer who specializes in making music that’s relatable, such as pain music. Mainly known for my songs having a cool vibe that you can relax and chill too or stand up and make you do a jig. I am very versatile and never limit myself because creation is limitless. My greatest achievements is not giving up on my supporters. I never knew for a while how many friends or strangers my music helped out until I was confronted in person and I actually read my instagram dms.. what sets me apart from others besides my unique sound is the fact I’m willing to be a student of music, an artist for the people, I’m actually thankful for the people,I am one whose willing to grow in a positive direction and water the anyone around me physically and spiritually.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Atlanta is amazing I’ve been to different cities and states and they all have their own unique attributes. Out in the A the culture is unmatched, the networking ability and fast past lifestyle is glorious. There’s plenty of scenery to travel too as an artist who has to constantly post content that’s appealing. The food out here is top tier especially the soul food places there’s nothing like a good ole southern style meal. The least favorite part of atl is the traffic it should not take me an hour and 45 minutes to travel 15 miles , we should’ve stuck to horses and carriages if this was we’re cars where going to lead us too lol
