Daily Inspiration: Meet Kim Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Thomas.

Hi Kim, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I have always been sort of a little entertainer growing up. I think I got my first start when I played Little Miss Moffet in head start. I remember the little boy that played the spider who really had red hair came up to me while I was sitting on my tuffet. He really scared me. I was supposed to run to the other side of the stage, but instead, I ran into the audience and into my daddy’s lap. I remember the audience was so tickled. I was about three years old or so. My well-known start though was at Alabama State University where I majored in Theater Arts. I will try to be brief because I can be a bit long-winded. I actually as an actress started out in a one-act play being put on by one of the current Theater majors at that time. The professor of the Theater was so impressed that she asked me have I ever acted before. I told her not really, so far as an adult. Alabama State University is what Yahweh God used to mold me and fine-tune in me what He had already put in me. I thought I was only going to be an actress, but God said otherwise. We had to take directing before we could graduate and I fell in love with that. Now the way I became a playwright is crazy. I was going through a divorce and as I was crying one particular night. God said, “I want you to write a play”. Now I was like, “Ok Lord I am hurting here and you are asking me to write a play?” Well the play that I wrote was about forgiveness and it saved a lot of people’s marriages that night as they would come up to me and tell me how it touched them. My marriage failed, but I helped someone else to forgive and not give up.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all. As I said earlier I was going through a divorce and trying to figure out what my life was going to be like without a husband that I really loved. It was really rough for me, but I knew God would get me on through it right along with my two daughters. When I ventured out on my own with my Theater company it was not easy finding actors at all. It was not easy finding help. The only help I had was one of my dear friends Darlene Shuford and my daughters Jasmine and Raven. God eventually sent me some faithful actors that were multitalented. They knew how to do sound, lights, videos, etc. Whatever I needed God began to provide for me. Being a Christian faith-based theater touring company was not easy either. I think that alone is why it was hard for me to get actors. The plays that God would write through me were not plays to make people feel bad, but to encourage them and enlightened them, Now Jesus was always at the center of every play, When you really stand for Christ and are serious some people will not support you. There was this one time when we had 12 people to show up for a performance, but we performed as if there were thousands of people out there. The next time we did the same show there were three people in the audience. We did a great advertisement, so we know that was not it. We did the play at church and it was packed. There were tons of obstacles that got in my way, but I never gave up.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I am a Christian performer, Director, Actress, playwright, screenwriter, Producer, Author, Special effects makeup artist, Poet, theater arts teacher, and certified acting coach specializing in The Study of Being. I like to say that I specialize in all of these because the gifts that Yahweh God has given me is like a family. When one gift moves the rest of them move right along with it. When one leg moves the other leg moves. When we walk the arms move. The arms and the legs both work together and this is how I feel my gifts work. I am most known for my acting though. What sets me apart from others is where I perform from which is from a Heavenly place. What do I mean by that? When I perform I am actually in the presence of God even though I am on stage and those who are watching carefully have actually seen the Glory of God on me while on the stage, I am bold in my faith when it comes to Jesus and I am not afraid, whereas some are hesitant to even mention His name I am not. I do not sugarcoat it. I am most proud of being one of the first Theater professionals( actress) to play the role of Grandma of the Original Harlem Globe Trotters. I have been with them since July 2021 and it has been awesome. The Granny has John 3:16 oh her jersey. I thought that was cool. Hey she is a bold grandmama and most of all I am proud to be a Christian performer that is making a difference in the entertainment industry.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would like to say never give up on your dreams. When you walk your dreams walk. When you walk your destiny walks. When you walk your vision walks. When you walk your purpose walks, but when you stop walking all of these stops walking. You have a purpose for whatever you were gifted to do, but if you do not make a move all of these will go to the grave with you and not have a chance to impact the world and make a difference.
