Daily Inspiration: Meet Kimberley Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberley Rodriguez.

Hi Kimberley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Where do I begin?! My journey with nails started with my love for art which I’ve always had. However, I never really did anything career wise or business wise related to art, I went to school to become a social worker and am a licensed therapist. I didn’t know what else I was capable of when I graduated high school, so I figured why not devote my time and career to helping others. Fast forward to 2 years ago, I was pregnant with my third child. I was feeling a little lost and needed an outlet. Therapy was expensive, going back to school for cybersecurity seemed a bit daunting, but after coming across another nail artists posts on Facebook, I figured I could try to challenge myself with painting characters in nails. And that’s it. That’s where it started. I felt like I was finding my passion. I went to school, posted constantly on Instagram and my work was getting recognized. I felt like the pieces of me were finally fitting together! Ever since I picked up the nail art brush I’ve focused on moving forward and finding myself as a mother, nail artist and social worker.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, nor is it smooth now. Everyday comes with its own challenges, the most redundant obstacle being finding the motivation to continue to push, especially when you feel unworthy of doing what you love. Sounds sappy, I know. But some days you crush every set, some days your work isn’t the best. Some days are booked and busy, some days are slow or idle. But that is just a part of growth. One thing I’ve learned is that you must work on finding your motivation and worth within yourself first, do not do anything expecting validation and support from others, it might not happen and that can be confusing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in structure gel manicures, gel x, hand painted nail art, and waterless pedicures.
I’m still trying to hone in on a specific art style but I would say my artistic style is eclectic. I love urban textures combined with a touch of chic chrome accents. I love creating anime sets. But I also love the simplicity of a solid color set.
I am proud of being able to get this far to be honest. To make a living through one of your passions is truly a blessing.
I’m forever evolving, analyzing and leaning from my mistakes and educating myself on best practices and products. I care about the health of my clients and their wellbeing. I’m also a die hard empath, this helps me tailor each visit to the individual client I am serving. You wanna crack up, oh I got jokes. You don’t want to talk, that’s cool. Wanna cry, I’m here.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I take risks but they are not often. Having a family means I need to analyze every step I take deeply. Risks are necessary for growth. But I believe they should be taken with caution.
