Today we’d like to introduce you to Kizzy Harris-Tobin.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was a single mom for a while and was raising two daughters on a budget. You couldn’t tell by the way I kept my daughters dressed nice that it wasn’t always easy. Since then I have two more daughters and now two granddaughters. As you can see, I’m surrounded by “lil cuties”. With that being said I’ve always wanted to have my own kids clothing boutique to provide affordable cute clothes to not only be fashionable but to make the kiddos feel beautiful/handsome without breaking their parents pockets. I’ve put my business thoughts to the side for couple of years because I couldn’t figure out where I would get the funds to start my business. Was at work one day thinking about it and out of nowhere one of my co-workers was online looking and said “you should start a clothing boutique” I was in awe and felt like it was a sign to start my business.
I used, and still am using my own funds for my business from paperwork, merchandise to supplies everything I’ve needed I’ve done from my savings and paychecks. I’ve been in business almost a year and I’ve wanted to quit several time struggling with sales, finding reputable vendors, marketing, funding etc but I’ve told myself just keep faith, continue to pray, and ask God to lead me in the right direction, and give me the knowledge I need for my business to be successful, and surround me with people who want to see me successful. This is my story.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Challenges & Obstacles: My biggest challenge then and now today is finding good reputable vendors. I reached out to so many people that had adult boutiques, or was selling different items and most would ignore my messages, or they would be vague and say something like ” oh just check online” yea a joke right…I thought the same thing.
Another struggle is ordering right sizes and clothes that will sell. Most vendors want you to buy in bulk so it’s hard to know what you should or shouldn’t purchase.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in kids clothing mostly girl ranging 0/3month- 10/12. I’m most proud of that my clothes are cute and affordable. What sets me apart yes I’m trying to make this as a second income, but at same time I’m not overly priced and trying to break people pockets.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Don’t depend of family, friends, and people you know the most to support you. Your biggest supporters are people who don’t know you but respect your hustle.
