Today we’d like to introduce you to Kund.
Hi Kund., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
So I’ve been singing in some form or fashion since I was about eight years old; whether in elementary school plays, choir, or singing in the shower, I’ve always been singing. The first time I really sang live was in 6th grade. I took guitar lessons back then, and we had a class band called “School of Rock”, very original of course lol. In the spring of that year, we had a showcase, and I sang “Seven Nation Army” by White Stripes. After the performance, I thought about how much fun I had, and to myself, I was like, “Hey, I could do this for real”. That’s a moment I always remember. That’s when I knew I wanted to do music for the rest of my life. It wasn’t until about ten years later that I picked up music production and songwriting. It was around then that I first started making my own music during early 2017, and I’ve been growing as a producer since then. Currently, I have two EP’s out on all streaming platforms: ‘Fledgling’ and ‘O, Solemn Night: The Pvrple Tapes’.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I definitely wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. I’d say one thing I’ve definitely struggled with is figuring out how to promote my music and put it in front of as many people as possible with the limited resources at my disposal. I feel like, with each year since I started putting out my own music, I’ve figured out more and more things here and there, but that is still an area of mine that has room for improvement. Another struggle has definitely been having to do everything virtually on my own. I don’t have a manager or any sort of team helping me on my music journey, and that’s something that, over the past couple of years, I’ve really been searching for.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I am a music artist. I’m primarily a singer-songwriter, but I also produce, I dabble in videography and photography, and I do some video editing and a little graphic design as well. I’m mostly known for my singing and songwriting and the music I put out.
I’m most proud of my last EP, ‘O, Solemn Night: The Pvrple Tapes’. The EP is six tracks, and I wrote and produced all of them. The engineering was handled by my longtime friend, phenomenal DJ and producer, KHAJE (IG Handle: @khajetingz). I’m most proud of this work because It was my second project ever, and I really wanted to challenge myself to handle the production and songwriting all on my own. The project is also a very personal one for me as well; it represents a cycle of darkness that we all have to deal with at some point in our lives, and it was a way for me to express the cycle that I was going through. I also put out a short film for the project as well. I shot it alongside my partner and best friend, Maisha Lakri (IG Handle: @mvtherlife), and I edited the entire piece myself. The video is out on Vimeo and YouTube, so please, check it out!!
I’m not sure what separates me from others, and I feel that me saying what does make me different won’t make me any different from the many people who have probably already said similar things. What I will say is that I’m me, and I always try to have my essence show through in my music. So I hope that people can hear who I am through the music I put out.
Lastly, but most importantly, I’ll be dropping a new single in late July, and it’ll be available on all streaming platforms! Stay tuned for the release!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I think the most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is to stay true to yourself and to stay persistent. If you keep at it, and don’t compromise who you are along the way, I feel that in time, you’ll eventually reach the place where you want to be.
