Daily Inspiration: Meet Le-Anna Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Le-Anna Johnson.

Hi Le-Anna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I go by LE as my stage name. I’m from Lorain, Ohio but I grew up in Sandusky, Ohio my entire life. I came from a rough background with very little to no guidance or any stepping stool into life. I needed something that I could vent to and something that could take the pain away so I started writing music. Growing up, I knew I always wanted to be somebody. I always wanted my name to be known and I always wanted to be on the big screen. Not only was music my dream and something I was passionate about, but I also knew it could change my life and the lifestyle of everyone around me. I never seen success growing up or anyone that was determined to gain it so I knew I had to be the one to do something in my family. Both of my parents were addicted to drugs and alcohol, which caused my mother to be incapable of being that parent that I needed and my father was so wrapped up into his own addiction and the street life that prison and being an absent parent became his route. Their choices led me to being on my own and independent since 14 years old and that made me have to find something that could pave a way.

I always wanted better for myself than that lifestyle and music was something to give me that. I believe it was a god given talent, as well as an escape and something that could benefit me and everyone around me. I started writing and making music around 11 years old. I lived with my aunt and uncle on and off growing up and my cousin was really big into creating music. We turned my aunt’s basement into a studio and from there, it took off. I began making challenges and Facebook videos in the car, which started gaining attention. I went to college in 2019 at Eastern Michigan University and one night I wrote a song about my life and I went to a real studio for the first time at 2am before my 8am class and recorded it and it got so much support on all platforms. After that, I never stopped. I started dropping singles, music videos, creating content for social media, and traveling to market my name. I knew then it was something I wanted to really take serious and invest into.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think chasing my dreams has been the hardest thing to do in life. Especially when you’re doing it from the ground up, without handouts or when you’re surrounded by an environment where it’s normalized and so easy to become a product of it. I think the biggest struggle for me was my upbringing and environment. Even though it gave me so much strength and desire to do better, it was hard because there was no help or no resources to become somebody. It’s always difficult to focus on a dream when reality is knocking you down or when you’re your only support and provider. Another struggle is staying focused. Life has always been so fast-paced and busy for me and sometimes it’s hard to stay focused on that end goal when life is so demanding. Becoming an artist is also difficult itself. You have to have thick skin and really be self-motivated. You realize that a lot of people won’t clap for you or even share your art and it can be become discouraging at times to still keep it going when the results and numbers don’t match the amount of work you put in. Also, music in an investment, where there’s a lot of money going out to maintain it but very little coming in at the beginning, which makes it so easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. You have to stay passionate about it and understand the money will follow consistent work in anything.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an Artist. I write and create music about my story that others can relate to.

I think I’m most proud of how dedicated I’ve been to my dream. Despite anything that I’ve been through, any obstacle that has been thrown at me, I have always kept sight of what I wanted to do in life and that’s be somebody and doing anything it takes to become that. I believe what sets me apart from others is I’m true to myself. I remain genuine and humble through any accomplishment or any major point in my life. I could be in a room full of people and still remain me and stand on my views. My intentions are always pure towards anything in my life. Money, fame, the industry, or any amount of success couldn’t change me. I am genuinely dedicated and have a passion for everything I do in life.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I always tell people to travel and leave their hometowns. Get away from the people and things you grew up around your whole life and meet new people and see new things. Take risks and jump for any opportunity given to you. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable and stop surrounding yourself around people or things you’re used to. Put yourself in a position and location that is going overwhelm you with opportunities and people that are beneficial to you. You should never be in a room filled with people that you can’t learn from. If you surround yourself with 5 millionaires every day you’ll become the 6th one eventually. Travel, leave your comfort zone, leave your hometown, and meet new people. You’ll network that way and gain people who are like-minded and beneficial to your dreams.
