Today we’d like to introduce you to LeVar Rhea.
Hi LeVar , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey to become a barber in February 2019. Prior to this, I was at a stand still and had no real direction in my life. My dad, Tyrone Bachman master barber encouraged me to consider barbering as a career. I knew that God had more in store for my life. So with the support of my family, I enrolled into barber school.
I attended Samverly Barber College where I learned the foundations and techniques of my craft.
I always loved being in the barbershop. The socializing, camaraderie, family, friendship, debates . Everything about it even when I was the one sitting in the chair and how I felt like a renewed person after a fresh cut . As a patron there’s no other place like it. But as a barber standing behind that chair being able to boost someone’s self confidence is truly a great feeling that few professions offer.
After completing barber school in 10 months I worked on my first television set “Queens” in 2020. I’ve since been blessed to have worked on countless projects and different platforms ranging from Netflix, HBO Max, Starz, Bet, Bet Plus. ABC, CW and many more. I’ve give all glory to God for the success he’s allowed me to have in my life.
Being a Master Barber has changed my life in more ways than I could’ve ever imagined. It has open countless doors for me, allowed me to give back to my community, created financial stability for my family, and has helped me to bless clients in all walks of life. I’m grateful to my mentors, teachers, and everyone who has poured into me along the way. I’m excited to see where God takes me next and am ready for next the challenge ahead.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles I’ve faced over the years began after I became a licensed barber. I moved to a shop in Buckhead that was shut down not long after due to a fire, which forced me to start over and rebuild my clientele at a new shop.
At the same time, I’ve worked to remain active in the film and television industry, where work is not always consistent and often fluctuates due to strikes, COVID, and production companies filming overseas to cut costs.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed barber working in both traditional barbershop settings and the film and television industry. I specialize in clean, detailed cuts and grooming that translate well on camera, with a strong understanding of continuity, character looks, and the fast-paced demands of set life. I’ve worked with a wide range of clients, from everyday professionals to actors and production teams, adapting my skills to meet each project’s needs.
I’m known for my consistency, professionalism, and ability to work under pressure while maintaining a high standard of detail. I take pride in being reliable on set, understanding how important timing, hygiene, and collaboration are in a production environment.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to stay committed to my craft despite industry fluctuations, including strikes, COVID shutdowns, and rebuilding my clientele after setbacks. What sets me apart is my versatility—I’m able to balance barbershop work with on-set grooming, adapt quickly to changing environments, and bring the same level of care and precision to every client, whether I’m in a chair or on a film set.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck Gods favor is the best favor!
