Today we’d like to introduce you to Liam Douglas.
Hi Liam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was first introduces to photography by an uncle who gave me my first film camera when I was 10 years old. It was an old Kodak Instamatic and I would shooting whatever caught my eye around my home state of PA.
Over the years I kept graduating to more and more advanced cameras and techniques and when I was in high school I joined the photography club and learned how to develop my own film in a dark room.
Over the last 45 years I have shot both for a living as well as for my own pleasure. I shot NASCAR and IMSA racing for many years at Atlanta Motor Speedway, VIR, Bristol as well as Watkins Glen, NY.
in 2015 I had one of my wildlife photos, a photo of a lion purchased by National Geographic to use as the wrap cover image for their Big Cats book.
I have sold over 25,000 images on Getty Images and in November of 2020 I release my first photography book based on my personal project of documenting abandoned business buildings in all 159 counties of Georgia. The book is on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and it titled Forgotten Pieces of Georgia, the Northwest Counties.
From 2022 to 2023 I shot content for EA Games for a couple of their video game projects and from 2017-2023 I also worked as a professional Real Estate photographer for a company based in Denver, CO.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s not always a smooth road I have had my challenges, especially with selecting the correct gear for some of my work. I always share with others getting into photography to get the best lenses they can afford as lenses last for decades, while camera bodies are obsolete in a few years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional photographer specializing in Documentary, Editorial and Real Estate photography. I have been a photographer for 40 years and even worked at one time as a traveling Portrait Photographer for Kmart back in the day.
I have also shot a lot of NASCAR and IMSA racing as well as Super Bike racing.
How do you think about luck?
I have had some good luck, getting a National Geographic cover as well as shooting racing content for EA Games.
