Daily Inspiration: Meet Lily D Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily D Moore.

Hi Lily D, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I lived in Austria, I took a drama class in school and fell in love. When we moved back to the States, my mom signed me up for an acting class and I still loved it. I booked a few jobs, then my mom submitted me to agencies. Once I found an agent, they started getting me auditions and I started booking jobs. I love it. I also do modeling and love that as well. I have been doing this for about 8 years. I’m best known for my character Rebecca on Never Have I Ever and for my character Kendall on Color My World with Love where I played the lead!

I also started a homeless ministry called “H.E.L.P.” which stands for Helping Everyone with Love and Passion. I put toiletries, socks, shoelaces, and food into bags and hand them out to homeless people. I have given out over 2000 bags!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Lots of struggles! Being patient! Once I got an agent, I thought I would get a lot of auditions! However, sometimes you can go days, weeks, and even months without getting one! It’s hard to wait. That’s why it’s good to keep yourself busy doing other activities. Rejection is another struggle. Once you get an audition, you are so excited and work hard to get the lines memorized and then tape it. Then, you find out you didn’t get the job, but never know the reason why! Also, sometimes you have to choose hanging out with friends, going to a party, school event, or vacation in order to go to a job. Lastly, some people do not take me seriously because I have Down Syndrome and that is hard. I can do everything other actors can do! But I always choose acting or modeling because it is my passion and dream!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Freshman at Clemson University this year. I am in the life program, which is for people with disabilities. I am having so much fun living in the dorms, making friends, joining clubs, managing the women’s Lacrosse team, going to football games, and being away from my parents! I am living my best life! I put aside acting and modeling for my first semester, but am ready to start back in January. It will be fun to balance college and acting!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I like to advocate for myself and others who have disabilities. I think it is important to show the world that people with disabilities want the same thing most people want: friends, college, living away from home, jobs, boyfriends, and even get married one day! We do not want people to feel sorry for us, we deserve to be respected and heard! I think everyone has an inner star and once you find what you are passionate about, I think you should go for it! I also think everyone is Unique, Beautiful, and Brave!
