Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Gubler.
Hi Liz, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my theatre journey back in high school and loved it so much that I went on to get a college degree in theatre while also working in the props department at Tuacahn Amphitheatre. In 2017, I was thrilled to be accepted into the Scenography program at the University of Georgia, which felt like the perfect fit due to its fantastic theatre and film programs. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I returned to my hometown in Utah for a couple of years, but I made my way back to Georgia in 2022, and fully started my career designing and drafting for the entertainment industry.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve definitely faced a few challenges along the way! I landed my first film project in 2023, but I haven’t had the chance to take on any more since then. Still, I’m keeping my spirits high! In the meantime, I’ve been fully immersed in drafting, with a particular focus on creating shop drawings. Thankfully, I really enjoy drafting! To keep things exciting, I’ve also been working on shop drawings for some home furniture pieces that I plan to sell online. I also crochet for friends and family.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m truly passionate about the design and drafting process for theatre and film! I really enjoy drafting because it lets me dive into the details and keep everything organized while creating design plates. I take pride in making clear and easy-to-understand plates that everyone involved can appreciate. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about bringing my detailed designs to life from page to reality.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Keep going and don’t stop! You can do it, it just takes time and lots of effort.
