Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Donald.
Logan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In college, I was a COMM major but my identity didn’t stick to a lot of the material we were being taught until I had a media techniques class. In that class, we were able to get our hands on some DSLRs and later produce some sort of visual element for the final in the class. I think this was where I got a glance at creating a motion picture for the first time. This was one of the first times I wanted to produce visuals that would match the weight and emotion of the story I’m trying to interpret. Since that project, I’ve learned so much about filmmaking through some big failures and some even bigger wins. I’m so grateful for a lot of the hard lessons I was able to learn in such a safe environment early on in my career. Working with musicians, other directors, producers, and business owners, has been one of the most rewarding experiences out of this entire journey. When it comes to art and expression I really value an authentic interpretation and when you get to connect and collaborate on a motion picture it’s one of the coolest things ever.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Learning to sustain a creative identity whilst a healthy life is something not for the faint of heart. Heck, doing anything that requires you to be vulnerable and express yourself is risky business. With that being said, I think being able to have that freedom and get to a point where you can support yourself finically, it can be one of the most rewarding adventures for anyone. I struggled a lot with being patient to be completely honest. I have no idea what I need to be patient for but I started to recognize a lot of perspectives was so fixated on these expectations I’ve had for myself and my career for so long. I’m such a dreamer but learning to ground myself in the present has allowed me to learn how important a spirit of gratitude is.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a film director. I love to write and develop a script/treatment, lead a team in executing the visuals, and guiding the post-production process to create shorts, T.V. spots, branding material, music videos, and hopefully features in the near future. I think if there’s any sort of “speciality” when it comes to what we do at SHUTTERSTINCT is the care we put into the authenticity and emotion of anything we produce or get to collaborate on. A lot of my narrative work leans in the thriller/horror direction. I love a very saturated image and letting actors deliver a truthful performance. Something I’m super proud of is technically not out yet and I can’t wait to share it.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I think any time I got to go to Blockbuster. I spent a lot of time watching movies and then acting them out after was a huge part of my childhood. At one point growing up, I was sure working at Blockbuster was the end goal.
