Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Lejeune.
Hi Lori, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to art, writing and other creative pursuits. Starting in grammar school in Louisiana, my drawings received awards and ribbons. Fast forward to now, and I’m a mixed-media visual artist and creative entrepreneur whose artwork offers a unique, signature look for public sites and modern spaces. I help art consultants, interior designers, and anyone looking for unique mixed media work on canvas or paper for their spaces, homes and projects. I also offer large-scale art installations and designs on vinyl, metal, canvas and industrial plastic for both interior and exterior sites.
I love Decatur and the Atlanta area, where I’ve lived since 2005. Not long after moving here in 2006, my experiments with creating round artwork led to originating my shape-combining, “constellation” style of wall installation by 2010 where shapes of varying sizes are combined together to create elegant patterns. Many viewers say the organic patterns in my large-scale work remind them of a constellation. Since then, my wall installations have been exhibited throughout Atlanta, in Austin, Texas and at Artfields in South Carolina, which recognizes artists of the Southeast.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not really, because having things not go as planned and experiencing some failure is part of creative endeavors! But, when you find joy in doing your work and focus on work that feels meaningful to you, that’s the part that can carry you through your career.
I feel honored that my constellation wall installation work has been selected for exhibit in venues such as: Real Gallery in Austin (2012), URBANFronts, ATL (2013), Southwest Arts Center, ATL (2015), the Decatur Arts Alliance (2017), the Aviation Community Cultural Center, ATL (2018) and ArtFields in South Carolina (2020).
However, I’m still seeking for my dream to come true for my wall installations, which is for them to be permanently installed in public spaces like corporate offices, airports or other public sites. I welcome commissions!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My FLIGHT series artwork features birds and other winged creatures that overcome gravity through flight. This series combines digital elements with paint and traditional fine art techniques, so the surface of the canvases shows texture from my brushstrokes. The work is uplifting and stands for overcoming the forces in life that weigh us down. My large-scale installations often feature my FLIGHT series imagery.
You can see FLIGHT series artwork in Fulton County Public Art Program’s permanent collection at Sandy Springs Library. Some of my public art installations included: “Be The Change (you wish to see in the world),” a 10-foot mural on vinyl in downtown Decatur with a selfie photo opportunity for viewers who resonated with the message (2021), “Peace Dove,” part of Marietta’s outdoor M2R Traveling Gallery (2022), and “Spread Your Wings,” a work on vinyl featuring butterflies which is part of City of Dunwoody’s Green Light Art project.
