Malik, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hey what’s up, my name is Malik Tijōn. I’m a faith based alt r&b, neosoul & funk singer originally from Columbus Ohio. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of producing tracks for some big artists like Kodak Black, Kyle, & Lil Yachty but after a life changing experience with the Holy Spirit in 2021 I began to feel called to use my gifts and expertise for God & his kingdom. So in a complete move of faith I fully left behind all of the traces of my old platforms I built and started on a new path from scratch, as my authentic self the way Christ made me. Malik Tijōn.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not, leading up to 2021 before I found God my life was a complete wreck. I was an alcoholic and addicted to smoking weed. I cursed all the time & was addicted to many vices & partying while also suffering from severe mental decline as my career ironically climbed higher & higher. But afterwards although there are still trials, walking with him has made these things the exception rather than the rule; and my entire life has turned around as a result.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Like I spoke on a bit prior i’m a Faith based Alt r&b, neosoul & funk artist & also *still* an RIAA certified 8x Platinum & 1x Gold producer. I also run multiple businesses with the main one being “MOUNT VERNON”; a creative firm I founded in 2017 built to guide, build, and support artists and boutique content while supporting practical communication between brands. In addition to all of that i’m also extremely hands on as a cinematographer, editor, amateur colorist, graphic designer & animator to name a few hats I wear sometimes lol.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes but not in the most direct way related to the crisis lol. During most of covid19 I was basically fine even though I was in the center of the toilet paper craze in Los Angeles lol. But that year more importantly was one of strong spiritual growth where I faced A-LOT of hardship and pain in that time. From being cheated on, falling into witchcraft without realizing to losing my grandmother who inspired me to become an artist in the first place. There was just a-lot I went through and had to power through as a man during that time. But i’m thankful & blessed because it made me the man I am today.
