Daily Inspiration: Meet Marcus Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Murphy.

Marcus, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My career started out as a print model with Octane Public Relations. The company was hired by the Department of Health to shoot a national campaign regarding synthetic marijuana known as K2. The print advertisement was shown throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and New York City in Times Square.

As I transitioned from modeling and rebranding myself as a talent. I was able to work with Award Winning Playwright Kelsey Collie who trained me the fundamentals of acting for ten years. Through Mr. Collie training, I was able to book short films, movie features, music videos, and print work.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My entertainment journey has been a learning journey that I continuous love daily despite the challenges the industry may have at times. Initially, I just wanted to model from print to runway. I quickly learned due to my height qualifications jobs were less. In addition, print work as an African American man came lesser and lesser at that time.

One way I decided to rebrand myself as a talent was training in acting and using my print job photo as my headshot to get me in the door. In my favor, if worked well because I was able to book a movie and revisit the craft that started my career which was modeling.

I have learned not to just wait for an opportunity but to create my own avenue. I have been in the process outlining my first feature film centering around Canada Lee, a boxer turned actor. The process is different from acting but rewarding to know all the opportunities I have had has assisted me with the tools to create this project.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist that enjoys the mediums of entertaining. Of course, the more I evolve and find interest in various entertainment fields. I am always reminded of Why I embarked on this journey a decade ago.

I am known as an actor and model from the District of Columbia who portrayed a K2 zombie highlighting synthetic marijuana. The modeling job opened the door for my career and showed me not to limit myself to one medium.

I am very proud of all my accomplishments because each one has added to my journey.

What sets me apart from the others is my drive, willingness to listen, and faith…

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family, friends, casting directors, and acting coaches has all contributed to my success. The reality is as a talent, you can have a vision and execute to the best of your ability. What I enjoy is knowing that without my support system, I am not able to achieve the massive successes I have had without them.
