Today we’d like to introduce you to Marshauwn Hill.
Hi Marshauwn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello!
My name is Marshauwn A. Hill, here’s a brief back story about myself. I’m originally from Detroit Mi and I’ve always had a passion for hair . As I grew older I tried to stray away from it but Hair has always followed me. So in December 2020 I decided to take a leap of faith into to the hair industry. I started taking clients in my living room then eventually rented a booth . Now I’m a salon suite growing my business and talent every day. This industry is mind blowing and I’m amazed at how much you can grow in this industry.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has definitely been a tough one! At one point of my life I was living in a hotel. Thankfully I did have a support system that encouraged me to keep going. It’s very hard when you’re just starting out for most independent hair stylists . You have to think about it almost every thing is on you however if you really want it you have to keep going no matter what.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently work in Marietta Ga. My specialty is sew-ins and silk press. I also do other services however sew-ins and silk presses are my number one thing.
I’m extremely proud of my growth sometimes I’m amazed at how far I’ve come. At the end of every service that I complete sometimes I just step back and truly admire my work and say wow four years ago I used to dream of completing work like this and now I’m doing it! It almost makes me teary eye of how proud I am of myself. I feel as if the one thing that has set me apart from most is that I never give up, no matter how hard the task may be, and also evolving into a people person has helped me tremendously. I understand what it’s like to be a client as well so I make sure I always put myself in my clients shoes, so make sure that I give them the best service I possibly can.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Definitely starting out it will be very wise to either find a mentor or go directly into a salon going directly into a salon will help you financially so you don’t have to struggle also being under a mentor will help you gain the knowledge and maybe even some skills or tricks that would help you later on in your career.
