Daily Inspiration: Meet Maurice Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice Turner.

Hi Maurice, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
XL TRANSPORTATION is a luxury transportation company that provides a unique experience through our service skills and upscale vehicles. We believe in the service of others. I started XL in Hyde Park Illinois, which is on the south side of Chicago along Lake Shore Dr. I recognized a need for transportation for the small groups of 5 to 15 people. I tested the theory 1st on Uber where I was the 1st to have a sprinter vehicle on the Uber platform.

Then I began to explore the market in Chicago such as hotel, dining, and entertainment venues. Through word of mouth and extreme work ethic, I created a name for myself. Unfortunately, the pandemic hit us all very hard. I had to shut the company down during this stage and thankfully, I had prepared for times such as this. During this time, I relocated part of the company to GA with the help of my two closest friends (Joe Lenton & Tiy-e Muhammad). You are only as good as the people you are surrounded with. Although I also have other sources of income (Home Repair, Dance Instructor… etc.) transportation is my baby. I have been diligently seeking opportunities in the Atlanta area to further grow the XL brand.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The pandemic was the largest struggle to overcome followed by the lack of information provided by city and state for self-owned businesses. They do not make it easy informational wise nor financially to be successful.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We pride ourselves on customer relationships. I feel that your repeat business determines what type of company you are. Repeat business makes your company sustainable, not always but most of the time.

How do you define success?
Success is the continued growth of personal and business relationships that stimulate the consumer and the product.
