Daily Inspiration: Meet Meadow Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meadow Williams.

Hi Meadow, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hey! My name is Meadow but you may see me on social media as Meadow Minnae. I’m born and raised in Stone Mountain, GA and know this city almost as well as the back of my hand. I’m a multifaceted creative spirit with a lifestyle YouTube channel (Meadow Minnae), a developing charity foundation (Dekalb Co. Unite) and I’m an up-and-coming lash tech. I started my YouTube channel back in 2018 with the idea that I would share my life with the world. My goal was to inspire people on a bigger platform to express themselves and love themselves without shame. I’ve always had a passion for helping others, which led me to begin developing a charity specifically for Dekalb County. Many popular charity events that are hosted are always in Downtown Atlanta, which is nice, but it’s not the only community that needs extra assistance. Dekalb County Unite focuses on putting resources and energy back into the same county that birthed legends like China Anne McClain, Quincy Carter, and Chris Tucker. Becoming a lash tech was one of the last things I saw myself doing, but I’ve always loved beauty. I taught myself and my family how to do makeup and they encouraged me to get my certification in doing lashes. Knowing that I can be the reason someone loves themselves just a little more each day, is my motivation to keep going.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming the woman, I am today has been far from smooth. Most of my struggles were family-related. Coming from a single-parent household and being the youngest, it was easy to be overlooked. My mental health was one thing that caused the biggest struggle. Dealing with depression, anxiety, and unbeknownst to me, post-traumatic stress disorder, I adopted the mentality that most people from an African-American household do: There’s nothing wrong with you, keep going. When battling mental health, it’s usually a lonely battle that’s never seen by most people because you rarely see the effects it has on someone until it’s reached its peak. One thing I would say to someone dealing with mental health is to make time for you. You have to put yourself first in a lot of situations where it might come off as selfish because you know yourself best. If a social environment doesn’t feel like it’s the best move for today, don’t go. Take the time to figure out what’s going on with you and find a solution. If you have a support system and people you can rely on to not judge what you’re going through, rely on them. It doesn’t always have to be a lonely journey, but it is your journey alone.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do a bit of everything. I’m skilled in the beauty industry with hair, makeup, and lashes. I’m skilled in photography and videography, and I also sing and dance on the side. My specialty is helping others and providing counseling. I’m currently getting my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and I plan to pursue my Master’s. What I’m most proud of is my ability to impact others. I try to always put positive and helpful energy into the world around me because there’s already enough negativity without me adding on to it. What sets me apart from others is my constant desire to make the world a better place. Everything I do, I think of how I can use it to help others. My life goal is to have made the world a genuinely better place before I leave.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is that you can’t do it alone. You can be skilled at everything and know how to do it all, but you realistically cannot do it all. A good support system is one of the most crucial things needed for a person’s development whether personal or business and many people don’t have that. It may not stop you if you don’t have a good support system, but it will slow you down in your growth.
