Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Nickson.
Hi Mia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I started doing nails last year. I was 17 years old still in high school. I’m from Birmingham AL, It was hard building clientele at first but eventually clients started rolling in the better I got. I was tired of working jobs so I became my own boss. It feels good to know people appreciate my talent. Nails changed my life really for the better. I have so many opportunities and I know it can take me far! Also doing nails is my safe place, I get to express my creativity in nails and I love that. I’m now in school to get my master’s cosmetology cosmetologist license. I plan to go far with my dream and complete all my goals.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I can say some of the struggles of starting off as a nail tech is learning the techniques. Once you have them mastered, it’s only up from there really. Also another obstacle is getting clients to trust you while you’re starting out, meaning discounted prices, lots of practice, and learning. Me personally I’m self-taught and I learn better that way by teaching myself things so I can get a feel and be comfortable doing things to my liking.

I am a self-taught nail tech. I’m most proud of how I’ve grown over the past year.
