Daily Inspiration: Meet Michelle Ellis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Ellis.

Hi Michelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story like a lot of folks begins with the need to do something with meaning. I have always been a person who loves celebrating people and seeing others win. Giving back to others is not just a statement for me, I actually live by those words. Over ten years ago, I put those words into action and started a nonprofit organization called The YOU Awards International. Through this platform my team and I seek out outstanding young people who are doing exceptional things in their communities and in the world. These young people are between the ages of 10-22 and live across the US. They stand out in our eight categories which include academics, sports, community service, technology, fine arts, entertainment, business, and kindness. Then we shine a bright light on them so that as many people know who they are and support their efforts. This is my hearts work, and I love it!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been times when everything falls into place and other times when the road is a little bumpy, but you work through it all! Everything you do in life takes effort. I am just blessed that I get the honor of supporting young people who are doing good work.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My life is a combination of business and nonprofit work. I work in media and run the nonprofit organization. Both are very satisfying to me. I am lucky to be able to do great work with all that I do! My mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of people!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor can be a game changer. I recommend that if there is something you want to do in life find someone who is doing that and ask them if they would be willing to help you. The reason I started the nonprofit was because of my mentor, she is a very successful public figure who was in media for decades and who also started an international awards show. Her work inspired me to dream and believe that I too could make a difference. So, yes, a mentor can help direct you along your path.
