Today we’d like to introduce you to Micki Price-Havard.
micki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Pilates instructor and Wellness professional with over 20 years of experience. In 2011, I started a Wellness company called MickiPhit, where I combine my knowledge of Pilates, group fitness and movement to enhance the life of my clients.
In 2018, I launched a membership based Online Pilates Studio (MickiPhit.com) that offers 24/7 access to step-by-step instructional Pilates videos providing simplified Pilates for your home or on-the-go Pilates practice. I also offer the MickiPhit Fitness app for those who want a more athletic approach that features strength training and athletic Pilates workouts- for home or on- the-go.
My aim is to bring Pilates and movement to a wide range of students with the MickiPhit Method; by offering variations and modifications of the traditional Pilates moves. My book, Pilates for Everyone, provides over 100 variations of Pilates and Pilates inspired exercises- making Pilates more accessible to students of many fitness levels.
Each year I offer a number of international Pilates Retreats that provide a deeper and more immersive experience than a studio Pilates class. I enjoy the relationship building that Pilates retreats provide and getting to know my students at a deeper level. I offer corporate classes, teacher training workshops and private pop-up classes.
When I am not traveling, teaching clients or filming inventory for my online platforms; I love spending time with family and friends.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a Black Pilates instructor who began teaching over 20 years ago, I’ve faced the challenge of navigating a wellness space that often lacked diversity and representation. Early in my career, I was frequently the only person of color in the room—both as a teacher and a student—which meant constantly having to prove my credibility and push against stereotypes. Despite these obstacles, I remained committed to creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered through movement. My journey has made me even more passionate about increasing access, visibility, and belonging in the Pilates world.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a wellness professional and Pilates instructor with over 20 years of experience, specializing in functional movement, strength training, and a pro-aging approach to fitness. I’m known for blending traditional Pilates with athletic conditioning to help clients move better, feel stronger, and live more vibrant lives—especially women over 40. I’m most proud of creating a space, both online and in-person, that is inclusive, empowering, and rooted in community. What sets me apart is my ability to meet people where they are, make movement accessible and joyful, and my passion for representing diversity in a wellness space that hasn’t always reflected that.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I consider myself a very lucky person in general. From the opportunities that have come my way to the incredible people I’ve met along the journey, luck has definitely played a role in both my life and business. Of course, I’ve worked hard and stayed consistent, but I also believe that being open, positive, and prepared has allowed me to recognize and receive the good fortune that’s come my way.
