It all started with a melody. At 15, Monica was already crafting songs, a testament to her innate creative spark. By 17, she expanded her artistic endeavors to storytelling and designing clothes, weaving her passions into a multifaceted creative identity. Her formal journey began with a graduation from the Ohio Media School in 2008, where Monica honed her craft in radio, podcasting, and television, laying the groundwork for a career across multiple media platforms.
Diving into Podcasting and Filmmaking: 2013 was a pivotal year for Monica, as she launched “The World According to Monica Renée,” a podcast that offered a glimpse into her unique perspective on various subjects. This venture marked her foray into a broader media sphere, setting the stage for further achievements. In 2016, Monica’s storytelling took a visual turn with a degree in filmmaking, followed by her writing, directing, and editing a short film titled “Scaffold,” showcasing her ability to convey compelling narratives through film.
Empowering Voices and Expanding Horizons: Monica’s commitment to amplifying Black voices and stories led to the creation of Monica Renée Teav in 2018, an online blog dedicated to Black entertainment, news, and pop culture. This platform underscored her role as a content curator and leader in promoting diversity and inclusion within the media landscape. In 2022, her pursuit of excellence saw her earning another degree in communications, further solidifying her expertise and understanding of the media industry.
Brand Xperts Creative Labs and Beyond: The launch of Brand Xperts Creative Labs in late 2023 marked a significant milestone in Monica’s career. This creative agency embodies her vision for a collaborative space where creatives can find customized solutions for their projects, from lyrics and jingles to branding. Monica’s initiative reflects her dedication to supporting and empowering the creative community, providing the tools and resources necessary for success.
A Vision for the Future: Monica is expanding her horizons further by pursuing an MBA, which underscores her commitment to blending creative talent with business acumen. This endeavor is about personal growth and equipping herself with the skills to navigate and lead in the complex media industry.

The road less traveled: My journey through adversity has been far from smooth. As a creative, one of the biggest challenges I’ve encountered is finding individuals who truly understand my vision and are willing to invest the same level of commitment and seriousness toward achieving our shared goals. It’s a journey that has often felt solitary, navigating through a sea of potential collaborators yet finding few who are truly aligned with my aspirations.
Another significant hurdle has been the scarcity of opportunities. The media landscape is notoriously competitive, with gatekeepers at every turn and a traditional system that often favors established names over new talent. This reality forced me to confront a crucial truth early on: if opportunities weren’t coming my way, I’d have to create them myself.
This realization was both daunting and liberating. It propelled me to launch my podcast, “The World According to Monica Renée,” and later, Brand Xperts Creative Labs. These ventures were not just business decisions; they were acts of defiance against a system that often overlooks the underdog. They were my way of carving out a space for myself and others in the media world.
Creating opportunities from scratch is no small feat. It requires a blend of creativity, tenacity, and an unwavering belief in one’s vision. There have been moments of doubt, of course, where the path forward seemed anything but clear. But each challenge and obstacle has been a lesson in perseverance and resilience.
Looking back, I realize that these struggles have been instrumental in shaping my journey. They’ve taught me the importance of self-reliance, the value of forging my path, and the power of staying true to my vision. While the road has been anything but smooth, it has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a path that has allowed me to grow as a creative and an entrepreneur and visionary determined to make a mark in the media industry.

Following these, Brand Xperts Creative Labs is a testament to my dedication to supporting and empowering fellow creatives by providing customized solutions for their projects.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to turn vision into reality—whether through the films I’ve directed, the stories I’ve told, or the brands I’ve helped build. Each project has been a step toward realizing my broader goal of becoming a media conglomerate dedicated to producing quality content and making a meaningful impact within the community.

In the world of media and creativity, where the landscape is constantly shifting, embracing risk is not just an option; it’s a necessity. My perspective on risk is that it’s an opportunity for innovation, a chance to venture into unexplored territories and redefine the boundaries of what’s possible.
One of the most significant risks I’ve taken was launching my podcast, “The World According to Monica Renée,” at a time when the podcasting space was becoming increasingly saturated. The decision to enter this arena, with its myriad of established voices, was daunting. Yet, it was a risk that stemmed from a deep-seated belief in the unique perspective I had to offer. This venture allowed me to carve out a niche within a crowded field and provided a platform to amplify voices and stories that might otherwise go unheard.

This helps me weigh the risk against the potential reward. Second, I trust my intuition. Often, the right path isn’t the safest one, but it’s the one that feels most aligned with my goals and values. Lastly, I embrace failure as a part of the process. Not every risk leads to success, but every outcome is an opportunity to learn and grow.
In reflection, I don’t view myself as a risk-taker for the sake of taking risks. Instead, I see risk as an essential component of creativity and leadership. It’s about making informed decisions that push the envelope and drive forward innovation.
