Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Rodgers.
Hi Morgan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a small business owner who specializes in Luxury Pajamas for everyone with my brand Cool Silk by Morgan Madonna, as well as a custom clothing designer for womenswear exclusively through Morgan Madonna the Brand. I started my first business back in 2011 with a family partner at the time and it was called Abandoned Threads where we thrifted and revamped gently used clothing to provide a new fashion flare. This ultimately became too busy for us being two undergrads, and we eventually parted ways. In 2019, I picked back up where I left off and started designing ladies’ apparel with launching Morgan Madonna LLC that same year! When the pandemic hit in 2020, I switched gears from custom clothing and designed, created, and donated hundreds of custom masks. I quickly met the demands of my customers and gained new customers during this time. Like most, I was working from home during the pandemic which gave me the idea for my latest line and launch, Cool Silk. Cool Silk is a luxury sleepwear line for women, men, and children that provides fashion-forward sleepwear, some of which can be worn out or to sleep. Cool Silk provides Luxury you can see and Comfort you can feel. Today I am focusing more and more on growing my Fashion House (Morgan Madonna the Brand) as well as researching cooling technologies to keep my Cool Silk sleepwear line innovative, eco, and fashion forward. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business and being an entrepreneur was not easy! In fact, it may have been one of my most difficult roads I’ve traveled to date. I am a creative, I love to design and create and I do this with great passion. But the business analytics and marketing and logistics can make things a bit trying. I have learned for myself that having a team is crucial. This truly allows me to be as creative as I desire without all the stressors of entrepreneurship. Just allowing me to focus on my target market and allow my designs to flow freely. I also have learned to be more patient. The talent and skills are there relax more and go with the flow. Everything is already working for your favor.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I relaunched my brand in June 2020, newly into the pandemic. My thought process was the world had shifted and most people weren’t going out or in need of custom clothing. So I decided I wanted to make a luxury sleepwear brand. Cool Silk by Morgan Madonna is a satin line of sleepwear predominantly for women, with a sprinkle of children and men throughout the line. I was inspired for this shift to sleepwear as most people were not leaving their homes anymore. In fact, remote work was at an all-time high. Cool Silk is meant to be what I call transition wear. This transitions from day to night and sleepwear to out on the town. Most pieces can be worn out or to bed depending on your own personal preference.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is waking up every day and having the opportunity to do what you love in whatever capacity that means for you. I wake up and feel blessed to be a creative and designer and share my talents. I have came a long way from sewing in my bedroom of my parent’s home till now seeing my very own custom designs in Boutique Storefronts.
