Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Slagle.
Hi Nate, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been into skateboarding and I loved the way that art was Was portrayed all throughout the culture. I also was obsessed with the designs and graphics on the decks. I bought my first camera to capture my friend and in having fun and then I became Obsessed with portraiture and lighting. The rest is history.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After getting my first camera I realized that there was a lot more technical work to be put in and it would take a lot more than a keen eye alone to create these images.. I had to hit the books to learn photography techniques. financial struggles and personal issues definitely made it difficult to prioritize photography but I am thrilled now that I put in those hours
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in portrait photography. I just love taking photos of people and I absolutely love manipulating off-camera light. While I am most known for photography I am getting into graphic design and skateboard art. I’m also discovering all mediums of art from painting to calligraphy. I’m really just enjoying the self-expression and the positive energy that creating art brings.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Self-help books. Unf*ck yourself is a personal favorite. But anything that can help me be a better version of me is what I’m looking for.
