Daily Inspiration: Meet Nyjah Monique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nyjah Monique

Hi Nyjah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Nyjah Monique, and I’m a Jersey native who now calls Atlanta, Georgia home. Music has been an integral part of my life since I was born. Growing up, I was surrounded by diverse musical influences: a mom who was heavily involved in the House Music scene, a grandfather who played jazz records at high volumes, a father with a car bass system powerful enough to affect your heartbeat, and a grandmother who would spontaneously burst into song.

At six years old, I began playing the clarinet, and in high school, I joined the marching band. By the age of thirteen, I had taught myself to play the piano by ear. My childhood also included time at a prestigious record label owned by a big-name celebrity, further deepening my connection to the music industry. Over the years, I’ve attended over 100 concerts, affirming that music truly runs through my blood.

My professional journey took me through various roles that honed my skills and prepared me for entrepreneurship. I worked as a MAC makeup artist, a flight attendant, and a general manager of a startup. These experiences provided the tools and insights necessary to launch my business, Creative Society.

Creative Society is a platform dedicated to elevating black independent music artists. We offer artist development services, management, and various media outlets such as our magazine, Rhythm ‘n Muse, YouTube series, In The Booth, and radio show-style podcast, aRt ‘n B. I’m proud to say that I’m currently managing my first music artist.

Additionally, I serve as the Entertainment Director for PYE Con, the #1 Black Spiritual Convention taking over Atlanta. In this role, I scout and book music performances, curate the entire production including panelists and keynote speakers, and ensure the smooth running of the show.

Music has always been at the core of my journey and I’m dedicated to supporting and nurturing the talent within our community through Creative Society and my work with PYE Con.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been easy, mostly due to me not following my path. I’ve always been afraid to bet on myself and see where music can take me. Despite trying to pursue other avenues, music kept showing up in my life, almost as if it was calling me back to where I truly belonged.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is imposter syndrome. It’s that nagging feeling of not being good enough, despite evidence to the contrary. Even with my achievements and experiences, I often questioned whether I deserved to be in the spaces I found myself in or if I had the right to guide and support other artists.

Setting lofty goals has also been a double-edged sword. On one hand, having high aspirations drives me to push boundaries and strive for excellence. On the other hand, these ambitious targets can sometimes feel overwhelming and unattainable, leading to periods of self-doubt and anxiety. It’s a constant balancing act between dreaming big and staying grounded.

Perfectionism has been another significant struggle. The fear of not doing something perfectly often paralyzes progress. I’ve had to learn that it’s okay to make mistakes and that growth comes from these imperfect moments. Embracing the process and being vulnerable has been crucial in overcoming this fear.

These struggles have shaped my journey and taught me valuable lessons. They’ve made me more resilient and empathetic, especially when working with the artists at Creative Society. I understand their fears and challenges because I’ve faced similar ones myself. This shared experience helps me guide them more effectively and fosters a deeper connection between us.

These struggles have been instrumental in shaping who I am today. They’ve pushed me to grow, confront my fears, and follow my true path in music. While the road has been bumpy, every obstacle has brought me closer to my purpose and has fueled my passion for supporting and elevating black independent music artists.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

At Creative Society, we offer services including artist development, management, and media exposure. Our artist development services focus on nurturing talent and helping artists refine their skills and craft. Regarding management, we handle everything from booking gigs and negotiating contracts to strategic career planning. We aim to provide a solid foundation so our artists can focus on what they do best—creating and performing music. Additionally, we run several media outlets to give our artists the visibility they deserve. This includes our magazine, Rhythm ‘n Muse, which features in-depth articles and interviews; our YouTube series, In The Booth, where artists can showcase their process and performances; and our radio show-style podcast, aRt ‘n B, which offers a platform for artists to share their stories and music with a broader audience.

I’m most proud of seeing the growth and success of the artists we work with. Watching them achieve their goals, gain confidence, and connect with their audiences is incredibly rewarding. It’s fulfilling to know that Creative Society has played a part in their journey and that we are helping to shape the future of music.

Our deep commitment to the black independent music community sets Creative Society apart. We understand the challenges artists have and provide support that meets their needs. Our approach is holistic, considering the commercial aspects of an artist’s career and personal and artistic development.

My diverse professional background adds a unique perspective to our work. This allows me to approach challenges creatively and find innovative solutions that others might overlook.

Another aspect that sets us apart is the authenticity and passion behind our work. My journey with music has been lifelong and deeply personal, which fuels my dedication to our mission. I’m not just running a business; I’m following a calling and helping others do the same.

Creative Society is not just a platform; it’s a community and a movement aimed at uplifting black independent music artists. Our services, genuine commitment, and innovative approach make us stand out, and I’m incredibly proud of our impact on the industry.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to start and continue the journey. There were countless moments when fear, doubt, and the pursuit of perfection held me back. I realized that waiting for the perfect moment or feeling completely ready would only result in missed opportunities. It taught me that progress and growth often come from taking that initial leap and learning. Once I began, I found that the path forward became clearer, and each step built momentum.

Continuing the journey, despite the inevitable challenges and setbacks, has been equally crucial. Pushing through those moments and staying committed to my path has led to some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. This lesson has shaped my personal and professional growth and influenced how I guide and support the artists at Creative Society. I encourage them to take that first step, embrace the journey, and trust in their ability to navigate whatever comes their way. It’s a powerful reminder that success is persistence and resilience, not just talent and opportunity.

Just start, and continue the journey. Embrace the process, learn from every experience, and keep moving forward.
