Daily Inspiration: Meet Phillip Hodge III

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Hodge III.

Hi Phillip, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
“It was all A Dream, I used to Read Word Up! Magazine” I’m Joking. I was born & raised in Powder Springs, GA by Phillip Hodge Jr. & Rickenya Hodge. From a very young age, my parents instilled a disciplined mindset into my siblings & I. I played basketball, track, & cross country while in school. The transition into the entertainment industry happened while I was in college in 2019.

I was at one of my lowest points in life, trying to figure out what I wanted to do. My Bestfriend, Emmet Myers & cousin, Ta’Rell Davidson suggested I give Acting a try. At that point, I had been Modeling professionally for about a year. While I was in college and a few months in Louisville, I networked with photographers & built a great Modeling portfolio. I wasn’t at all interested in Acting but when I saw Ta’Rell perform his comedy routine at a Comedy club, that really drove my passion for entertainment. Ta’Rell did comedy sketches with a few of his friends & I would go to set with him to learn and study. That was one of the most beautiful, collaborative experiences I’ve ever felt. From that point on in 2019-present, I’ve been a Professional Actor.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life always throws obstacles at you. I’d be lying to say it has been a smooth road. There is a constant rejection that comes in life but even more so in the career, I’m trying to pursue. I saw a diagram a few days ago, of how many people on social media see the glitz & glamor of working in entertainment. They never see the blood, sweat, & tears that go into it. That goes for all aspects in life but as Rocky said in “Rocky Balboa”, (My Favorite Movie Franchise) “It ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get it & keep moving forward. How much you can take & keep moving forward. That’s how winning is Done!” I’ve definitely have had my fair share of rejections throughout the last few years. It hurts but when you have a passion for something in life, it doesn’t matter how many times you get hit, you push forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am A Professional Actor & Model. I had been Modeling professionally for a year before I transitioned into Acting. When I did transition into Acting, it was new waters to me. I always had a fear of performing or doing public speaking in front of big crowds when I was younger. Acting has given me a platform to being authentically me & not fearing of failing amongst my peers. “Out With The Old”, “Family and Campbell”, “Post Grad: The Series”, “ATL Homicide” on TV One, and “Shes Mine” are a few credits I have my name on(seen on my Actors Access) resume). “Out with The Old” has a very special place in my heart. That was my first film ever shooting and it was amidst the pandemic. It was the first feature film and my very first film premiere. I’d say one of the things that set me apart from most is my Work ethic. I strive for everything I want in life. I’ve realized when I put my mind into something, I can make it rain.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
The things I’ve been able to do in life would not be possible without God. God has tremendously blessed me with Bookings, Jobs, and in life in general. My parents are also big contributors to who I am. I thank God for blessing me with two parents who want nothing but the best for me and continuously push me in the right direction. What I’ve realized is that the greatest gift God can bestow unto us is a great support system in Family and Friends. When you have a group of friends who have a common goal and want it as badly as you do, it’s the greatest feeling.
