Daily Inspiration: Meet Pretty Ri$ki

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pretty Ri$ki .

Pretty Ri$ki

Hi Pretty Ri$ki, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve loved writing poems since I was a little kid. Words have a lot of meaning from what you say, how you say it, to where you say it, all serves a purpose. I officially started writing music when I was 12. I. had composition notebooks filled with lyrics. I didn’t know when I was going to ever produce these songs, but I had this outsource where I could write my feelings out and it made sense to me. From listening to beats and rapping in the car to coming up with fire lyrics in shower… I finally gained the confidence to post my music.

I had a major shift from makeup to music. I don’t see myself completely breaking away from makeup yet, it’s still a very big part of who I am. It’s been an interesting journey, relearning audiences and understanding what people like and don’t like.

This past year, after going through a very hard break up I decided to finally let people hear what I am about. I dropped my first official song on Spotify called “My Boo”. It’s a fun, out of the box song and hopefully empowering for women ‘cus sometimes we just want it too (listen to the song, you’ll see). My goals in releasing my upcoming music is to inspire people to be themselves, love themselves and just have fun in life. I bring a whole new aspect to the rap world by rapping in Bangla!

I didn’t have a budget for a studio time and a producer so I invested in my own equipment and finally set up something decent in MY CLOSET (lol). I’ve been working with my friends who love to make beats and looking up instrumentals to use from YouTube to make my recent releases. While it has been a huge learning journey, I’m grateful for the support from my friends while I purse this new side of me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenge has been collaborating with other artists and producers. It’s hard when you’re just starting off and don’t have much out AND being a woman. I’ve dealt with people who haven’t taken me seriously or don’t want to give me the same effort as other artists because I am not up there yet.

I’ve taken the time to actually learn how to mix and master my own sound to avoid having a producer who takes weeks to return my music or doesn’t want to do it in general and you can tell when they don’t want to work with you.

I want to learn how to make my beats as well, I feel like that will make me a powerhouse for myself!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a rapper but also have been throwing my language: Bangla into my songs. I’ve always been a content creator so I’m trying to integrate my music and content together and shift it into this new world I’m in. What sets me apart is my dedication to releasing my songs regardless of others’ opinions. I’m most proud of this courage to share my music and express myself authentically without letting judgments hold me back.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
