Daily Inspiration: Meet Quanny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quanny.

Hi Quanny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Mississippi! My hometown is Gulfport, Mississippi! I was raised by my mother and the youngest of six! All my life, I ALWAYS KNEW I am born to SHINE! When I walk into a room, my energy and presence demand ATTENTION! I always knew I wanted to be an actor and on TV! I always knew I wasn’t meant to stay in Mississippi! I am destined for SUCCESS! I am too big for Mississippi! Even though Mississippi will ALWAYS be home, but I have things I must ACCOMPLISH in this life I am living in. I always take risk and gave all my trust to God! I graduated high school 2014 and gotten my associate’s degree in 2016! I went back to school in 2019, and graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a minor in Spanish in 2021 from the University of Southern Mississippi! I always told myself that after I gotten my Bachelor’s I am living in Mississippi! I did! I gotten my apartment and job in Atlanta the same day of my graduation, and moved the end of the month! My plan when I gotten to Atlanta is to really start my career as an actor! The next month I applied at Kandi’s restaurant, Blaze Steak and Seafood, as a host. The job was sooo much fun!

I met and gain many friendships! Even gotten the chance to meet Kandi, kiki with her, and was even on Real Housewives of Atlanta and Kandi and The Gang, just for a few moments lol. I loved the exposure I gotten at the restaurant and came across a filming director! We had a very long and personable conversation, and she asked me to be a part of her TV show called “The Matriarch.” This was MAJOR because this is what I needed and knew I was going on the right track! Getting this role in this TV series WITHOUT auditioning is a sign from God! Everything happens for a reason, and gave ALWAYS come RIGHT ON TIME! You see, faith with work is dead! God is doing all the leading, I’m just following! I was flown to Los Angeles, which I NEVER been to, to do promotions for the show and photoshoots! I worked COUNTLESS OF HOURS on set, but the feeling was soo right! Now, I am waiting to film the first season of the show, and the commercials will be out in the summertime! I’ve met so many beautiful people in Atlanta, and I am so grateful!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, I’ve been through a lot! Growing up, I was bullied, gay bashed, and talked about. Being different from everyone else made it really easy to pick on me. Growing up in single-parent home, I watched my mama worked her behind off to give us the life she wish she had! Unfortunately, back in 2008 my mama was injured on her job and caused her not to work anymore. My life was definitely different from everyone around me, due to me had to get a job at 16! My first was at McDonald’s, and I had to help my mama pay bills! I grew up faster than the average kid because I had to be responsible! I still did extracurricular activities in high schools, such as band, DECA, Spanish honors and more…

I always been a busybody, and I didn’t allow my home situation to reflect my dreams and goals! Fast forward to moving to Atlanta! It was a SMOOTH TRANSITION! If it wasn’t for God and my cousin Derelyn, whew Chile…… Leaving Mississippi in May 2021 was so easy. But leaving people I love the most was the HARDEST FOR ME! Being her alone in Atlanta was an adjust, but I am keeping my head on the prize! My friends here and my best friends at home made it a lot smoother here lately! I went through a financial hardship last year, but I gave that battle to God, and I back and BETTER!

I want to personally thank my bestie Josh for being here for me through thick and thin! For pushing me and being my peace! Josh thank you for setting an example of what a best friend should be! My good sisters (best friends) Devonta, Tookie, Tim for being my girls and supporting me and being here with me! My mama, my siblings, my family! I also want to thank Derelyn, Marcie, Ashley, Prochorus, Mariyona, AJ, Alonzo, Allison, Jahiem, Quannie, Rsteel, and the whole STATE OF MISSISSIPPI for the unconditional love! You all are so thoughtful and supportive with my journey! All my mentors etc…

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am specializing in acting! Currently, I am filming my own short films, and writing my own stories! I love going deeper and talking about what people actual struggle with. I am known for being QUANNY with this big beautiful aura and positive personality! I just went viral on Tik Tok because of a dance challenge I done lol! I am proud of me, my strength, my presence, my personality, my life, my struggles, my challenges, EVERYTHING! I wouldn’t be here today if I didn’t conquer the battles I was facing with the help of God and my friends and family! What sets me apart from others is ME! You WILL NEVER meet another person like me! My energy and my aura is contagious! People can’t get enough of Quanny! YASSSSSSS HONEY! I am love so much! Self LOVE is my first love! I am in my OWN CATEGORY! There will ONLY BE ONE ME!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I moved here to Atlanta without knowing what was next for me! I LOVE RISK TAKING! Success is about risk taking and believing in yourself! You can’t be successful by being comfortable! You have to put yourself out there! If I can do it! YOU CAN DO IT!
