Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy James
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always be artistically gifted (gifted musician, writer, sketch artist), but I had never taken a picture with a professional camera. I lost my brother last year. The event sent me into depression. In an attempt to brighten my spirits, my son (who is a college basketball player) gave me his camera. He said that maybe it will cheer me up and that I may find good use for it. After two weeks, I finally picked it up. I was immediately intrigued. I started snapping pictures around the house and experimenting with the settings on the camera. After a few weeks, it started to make more sense. I became more and more interested. I finally did a photoshoot with my daughter. The feedback from the pictures that I posted was phenomenal. Within a month, I got my first paid photoshoot! The rest is history!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any business, there will be ups and downs, and obstacles that you will encounter. Just constructing a business model that fits your lifestyle is a challenge. Then there’s the challenge of having enough capital to invest. Photography equipment is extremely expensive. My love for what I do makes it all worthwhile.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I believe that the path that I am on is a divine one. My talents and gifts are God given. My ability to see things from different angles is something that I cannot explain. It just happens.
I’d have to say that I’m most known for my quality of work, my ability to make my subjects comfortable, and my swift turnaround time.
I am extremely proud of my growth in the industry. I can literally see my progress with every snap of the camera.
I believe that the way I see art, sets me apart from most. The world is full of amazingly beautiful things and people. Some are not as apparent than others. It’s up to us to find those hidden gems and introduce them to the world.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Well, my brother’s untimely death was extremely unfortunate, but out of it came the business that I now own.
Some may call it bad luck, or misfortune, but I call it God’s plan.
