Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Cardenas.
Hi Rachel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story started later in my life, in my 30’s. I always wanted to model and also be an inspiration to others to love themselves. I am a freelance model and I am known for loving the curvy woman I am. I don’t put myself out there as a risky model (a show it all) model. I model in Modest and classy style and hoping to inspire young ladies that classy and modest modeling is an art and help you earn more respect in the field.
I started modeling in 2020 as a hobby and as a creative outlet. I was very much an introvert and I wanted to meet new people so I challenged myself to do this. I met up with some people from Instagram and connected in some groups on Facebook, and have become 32 times published in magazines.
Now, here I am, still going at it but now with my own magazine titled “You’re It Magazine”. I help publish new photographers and models get exposure for their work. This magazine is known for being kind and thankful for each entry and features a letter from the editor in each issue.
I have many new connections since 2020 and currently connecting with many more this year. I look forward to the future of both my modeling and magazine issues.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a new road, not necessarily smooth or rough. I just had to overcome my insecurities and just go out there and make it happen. I had to learn as I go, in modeling and also in my magazine issues. Each photoshoot and issue I am a part of takes planning, time, and concentration to make the appearance and look happen. With my modeling, I schedule, coordinate, and work with my photographers to get the desired look for our shoots. This has made me learn scheduling, accountability, and teamwork because this is me, this is my craft.
My magazine is spread by word of mouth on Social Media and each issue has submitted photos from photographers and models I connect with. The issues produced are organized, edited, and published by me and then shipped per order. This, also, is a product of my work so I make it professional and presentable with elegance in detail. This also is a craft.
I still struggle a bit, but time and trial and error help to ease the struggles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for being a freelance model in DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) and being a caring, compassionate individual. I am a modest model and I have earned respect from photographers that I work with by respecting myself and my body during photoshoots. I been told that goes a long way.
My second known identity is the Editor for You’re It Magazine which is also based in Dallas, Texas. We are a professional photography exposure magazine for models and photographers. We publish one issue a week and have grown to 200+ followers on Facebook since January 2022.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
With my modeling, risks I had to take involved meeting new people, going to different locations I have never been to, and being aware of all my surroundings. To help with all of this, my oldest son accompanies me to all my shoots. This is a must for any female model in this profession. Always take an extra person, and if the photographer says no to security, Don’t Do It!
With my magazine, we try to avoid risks by setting boundaries on printing photos. We only publish professional pictures with the permission of the parties involved. This keeps us from violation of the model and photographer rights to publish. Also, the profit from all the issues sold goes back to produce more for our followers.
