Today we’d like to introduce you to Reabetsoe Mosia.
Hi Reabetsoe, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
At 15 years old, my South African mother married a man from Atlanta; very quickly, everything changed. I packed my life and moved to Atlanta with my mother, started schooling and took my new world by storm. From getting straight A’s, becoming a class representative and winning first place in the state of Georgia for public speaking in FBLA (These achievements were recognized by the Georgia Department of Education). Now I’m completing my first semester in college at Georgia State University with a strong suit of flying colors and a YouTube channel to share my life with those in South Africa who I hope to shine a light for.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not always. Academically it was always smooth but having to familiarize yourself to a not all that welcoming land caused a bit of homesickness for me. There are a couple of times in my journey we’re I’ve shutdown and wanted to stop and go back to South Africa, but there was always a nudge and drive for me to get up and push harder. (As a Christian, that nudge was God)
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a content creator on YouTube for my channel Living Like B, as well as an artist and public speaker. All these things have helped in the building of my platform in order to shed some light to so many South Africans who look to America as a safe haven; about its realities and moreover share the truths of South Africa to American all from the point of view of a person who’s been able to live in both sides of the mirror. I’m most proud of winning first place in the state of Georgia for public speaking in FBLA; it honestly gave me the greatest confidence that if I’m able to excel in this in great America, I can do ANYTHING through Christ who strengthens me. My success is in direct correlation with the amount of work, passion and prayer I put in.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor is a hard thing to say because for all the mentors I’ve had the pleasure of being under in my life, all of them had been first put in life to fulfill a purpose. For example, my teacher had taught me (it was her job) but as time went by and I continue to show a respectful, inquisitive, understanding, receiving and insightful manner, she saw a place where a seed was sown would be in good soil rather than cast away. Networking, in general, has worked well for me, the biggest insight I’ve had to learn is what is a beneficial joining and what is venomous to not only the brand that I’d like to build but also my personal morals. What seemed to work well for me is going into every engagement confidently and knowing that as long as you know you put your best foot forward, you’ve gotten one step closer to your goal.
