Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Bustamante
Hi Sam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Queens NY, lived there for about 7 years then moved to Orlando Florida.
I’ve always enjoyed music for as long as I can remember, from making music videos with my sisters when I was young , to joining my chorus group in elementary. Sometimes I would take my sisters laptop and make parody songs about shampoo and other random things. But it wasn’t until 2017 when I started to get back into making music but a little more serious this time around, I took a lot of inspiration from Omar Apollo , Victor Internet , Frank Ocean
I moved to LA in 2019 to continue making music but the pandemic made that a short stay so I left to New York to work on a EP titled “Broke” with a cousin of mine in his studio , during that process I knew that music would be what i wanted to do. After working on “Broke” I moved to ATL to work and continue creating music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not having support, Id say has been the biggest struggle but I always knew as long as I stood by the music the support would come, and moving around states because of the pandemic also made it difficult to make music but somehow I would always find a way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make majority of my music, from the guitar, bass lines, harmonies, synths, are all coming from me. I enjoy collabing with other musicians, producers, friends and seeing what comes out of it. I think what sets me apart is that I try to really be myself in my music and through the years i’ve been able to slowly fine tune my craft.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Stay focused, surround yourself in your craft, take chances, don’t listen to the hate, stay consistent and don’t give up even when you feel like it isn’t for you because you don’t see the finished product.
