Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Thornton.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Unbeknown to me at the time, finance has always been a part of me. I remember growing up in a very small town, family members always wanted me to either help save their money, keep their money, or pay their bills with their money. I never thought anything of it because of where I am from. The only career choices that were drilled into my head were to become a nurse or a teacher. Nothing entrepreneurial and certainly not anything in finance. What about basic banking?? Fast forward, as I was looking for a job, 12 years ago that could provide the privilege of working “banking” hours, I stumbled into my first role as a bank teller and my career and knowledge in finances just grew rapidly. While working in that field, especially while serving in low to moderate income areas, it grieved my spirit that most of the people that looked like me couldn’t grasp the basic concept of banking or how to leverage credit or debt to income because just like me, we weren’t taught because our parents were not taught. I decided to be that someone who had the desire, passion, and drive to truly build a bridge that will close that gap in the financial area. That alone was why S&T Consulting was birth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles I’ve experienced, which is common, is building the client base. However, I don’t allow it to get me down because I know if I keep the passion and faith while I work with every client, eventually they will come. Being faithful over the small things builds strength and God promises to make me ruler over many things.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Outside of S&T Consultant Firm, I own some investment properties. I am an advocate for motivating and encouraging others through the transition of renewing their minds. My first book, Renewing Your Mind; A Going Out will officially be out Dec 25. This is a 40-day journal that encourages, motivates and allows the readers to transform their minds no matter the situation at hand. Yes, there will be more coming soon, especially coupled around my Non-Profit Organization, Beautifully Broken Wings. I am all about helping others bring that Spiritual Balance in their lives that is led by the Holy Spirit.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
When I think of Risk-Taking, I say why not??? We take risks daily when we delay taking the necessary risks to create that space to use the gifts on the inside of us. The method I use is cost-benefit analysis. A simple way to evaluate the cost of the risk the now benefit along with the future benefit. This will logically let you know if what you want to do is worth it. Again, why not??
