Daily Inspiration: Meet Saphira Sanders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saphira Sanders. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Saphira also known as Phira Phierce started her career as a Makeup Artist who inspires back in 2013. Makeup artistry is her first passion. But she has also been doing hair since she was in 5th grade, but only for relatives and close friends. She didn’t like to promote she did hair because she always thought doing hair was too time-consuming and a higher risk when dealing with different types of people and their hair care needs. Once she decided to go to cosmetology school to gain more opportunity within the makeup industry, she grew more fond of doing hair and eventually grew a passion for that as well.

Saphira began her cosmetic line “Phira Phierce”, in September 2019. Where she offers cosmetic items for people of all ages and skin tones. Enhancing the beauty of others is something Saphira always had a passion for. She has always believed that makeup is about creativity and expressing your inner beauty. Phira Phierce is the home of Cruelty-Free and Black Owned Cosmetics! Look flawless and bougie on a budget! Become a Phierce Barbie by shopping with us!

September 15th, 2020 during the pandemic she not only obtained her Cosmetology license and graduated from Empire Beauty School, Springfield, but she also opened her free-standing salon/shop, where she could service both men and women beauty, grooming, and hair care needs. She believes that she has accomplished all that she has also because of her knowledge she acquired graduating from Neumann University in 2016.

She knew she never wanted to work for anyone but herself, and even through all the jobs she’s held during her come up, she never settled for less. She was always looking for the best opportunity, which is why she never really stayed at jobs past a year, except for when she worked at MAC Cosmetics, in which she did from 2015-2018. She gained a great amount of skills that she still applies to her career today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing about my journey has been smooth, and I mean nothing. One of the biggest struggles I faced was being wrongfully fired from my last 9-5 and just shared with my job that I was pregnant. I had to figure out how to provide for my family without a job. I was so distraught that I swore to myself that from that point on, I would never allow a company to have control over my well-being like that again! Luckily for me, I’ve always been a hustler, so I started my cosmetic line and really started taking clients for hair and makeup. I ended up going to cosmetology school full-time instead of part-time so that I could finish faster. All that was in my head at the time was I have to make a life for my daughter and sitting around feeling sorry for myself wasn’t going to do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I call myself the home of the one stop shop. My salon is called Phira Phierce Beauty and Grooming Lounge because we take care of both men and women. I am able to perform most women’s hairstyles such as sewins, braids, wigs, natural hairstyling, etc. and for men, I am able to cut, braid, and style men’s hair. Not to mention I’m a bomb Makeup Artist. One of my hidden talents that’s not so much of a secret anymore is that I do an amazing retwist and fire styles on locs. At this point in my career, I’m really known for Natural Glam in Makeup, Locs, and Natural Haircare. What sets me apart from others is that I take pride in providing the best customer service possible. With all my experience in customer service, I believe I have a set number of skills providing the best. I am most proud of all that I have accomplished thus far and excited to see where I can take my brand in the next five years.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Yes of course! I have books and youtubers that inspire me to reach for the stars. Some of the books that I believe have helped me achieve some of my success are “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne, “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert T. Kiyosaki, “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero, just to name a few. I love reading self-help books. I believe part of becoming successful is changing your mindset. One of my favorite Youtube/Podcasters are Anya Ivy and Raven Elyse, as well as Allyiah’s Face and Aaliyah Jay. These women really inspire me to work hard for the things I want in life.
