Today we’d like to introduce you to Saucelife Jay.
Saucelife Jay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started with me rapping on the back of the bus in elementary school. We would freestyle everyday but I wouldn’t record anything. It wasn’t until I got into middle school and met a group a homies that started a rap group with me. We started recording in homemade studios and just worked on our craft all the time. In high school, I stepped back from hip hop for a little bit to focus on graduating. I was getting into a lot of trouble and barely passing, always in ISS (in school suspension) or suspended. Tried community collage after high school it wasn’t working for me so I enlisted in the US Army in 2016 and got kicked out for smoking weed in 2019 that’s when I really started going to professional studios and putting out music and music videos.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely some struggles especially for a diamond in the ruff like myself. From dealing with fake friends/brothers.
Dealing with female drama.
Family drama.
Being dead broke, spending my last for a studio session, marketing, or videos.
Nights where I barely ate and slept thinking about my next move.
I always kept my head up through fasho and stayed down now things have gotten way better than it was just a few years ago.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for rapping, and I feel like I specialize in switching my flows. One thing about my music no one can listen and be like “oh he sound the same in every song” or this and that because I’m diverse when it comes to rap. I’m most proud of my growth musically me being creative and trying out different ways to make music or make my sound distinctive. That for the most part, is what sets me apart from others. I’m not looking for deals the deals look for me, honestly I’ll stay independent the rest of my career unless they come with that bag forreal.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
