Daily Inspiration: Meet Savannah Samples

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Samples.

Savannah Samples

Hi Savannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started this company back in 2016 based on a growing problem: the helping hand is no longer in the home because they are focused on thriving. The traditional father figure as the breadwinner and mother figure as the homemaker have evolved into dual-income households who want to be successful in each aspect of their lives!

I created this company as I worked as a nanny in college. Several households struggle with keeping up with the day-to-day tasks. This pours over into their career and their relationships, which creates stress and chaos and affects their performance. I noticed the relief in the homes after I began helping get the daily tasks done. People trusted me; they loved coming home with no to-do list, and they started focusing more on their health, their marriages, their kids, their careers, and their communities.

Angel Assistance exists to better society. It exists to support mental and emotional health in your home. Our clients have a reliable and trustworthy right hand to tackle the ongoing list of monotonous tasks: laundry, dishes, tidying, organization, meal prep, errands, childcare, and animal care. You have the same person on the same schedule to provide predictability and ongoing support.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
First hurdle was starting a business as a college student with no financial backing besides my work at hand. Additionally, I had no “how to” guide on logistics. I had to learn everything along the way: how to apply for a business license, how to incorporate a business, how to hire myself as an employee for the business, which platform to use to collect money, how am I scheduling clients, how to hire my first employee, and how to do this all while paying the IRS what they want and not breaking any rule that is going to cost you later on. People always told me the best way to start a company is to start. Eight years of trial and error later, we’re still here!

A mistake I have made that I would tell people NOT to make is always putting my business first. I have sacrificed my own life, bills, credit, etc., to make sure my business was in tip-top shape, and that all caught up to me. I took out a few small business loans. One was with Stripe, whom we use for transactions and love. One was a quick 24-hour loan found through Torro, which was a horrible mistake, and we paid the price literally every weekday. Thank God for mentors who force you to stand in front of the mirror and deal with your problems!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Angel Assistance, we specialize in providing household help to alleviate the burden of everyday tasks. Our dedicated team, known as Angels, are here to support you with various chores such as laundry, dishes, tidying, and light organization. We also offer help with errands, donations, childcare, and animal care. Our goal is to relieve your stress and give you back time to focus on your health, relationships, career, and community. With a focus on building relationships, our Angels become familiar with your household and tailor services to meet your specific needs.

I have used these past eight years to focus on clients, hire intentionally, and join accelerators for mentorship and exposure. I am still 100% owner. I have people helping me manage that have experience as an Angel or a client. Our accountant is a client, our Client Success Manager started as an Angel, our marketing agency has been a client for over 5 years, and there are others in line to serve us as we grow. People have seen what we have built, believe in it, and come back to be a part of what we are doing in society.

The modern household is just going to get busier. We help people learn HOW to get help, delegate appropriately, then we continue to support their household throughout all phases of their lives. Since each client is individually catered to, we take away the “stiffness” in outsourcing. Clients don’t have the burden of providing a full-time income to an individual as all Angels are fractional, nor do they worry about who is going to show up at their house that day. Our clients have stressed the fact that they love forming a relationship with their Angel. Their Angels gets to know them, their household, and their needs, leading to quicker shifts and more predictability in support.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Grants, grants, grants! Accelerators and incubators! These will keep you out of debt and simultaneously grow your support system. One of my favorite mentors came from an entrepreneurship seed program. $500,000 for 50% sounds great- 99% of the time it isn’t.

Be intentional with networking- if you don’t have a sales gift of “working the room,” scratch the big, fancy networking events and focus on coffee chats. Always go into the meeting searching for how you can help them.

Accept the help- this is mainly for women, but some men struggle with this, too. Being able to “do it all” leads to burnout and can eventually close your doors. As I tell my clients, delegation is a strength!

Find your faith and keep it. I stay grounded through knowing I’m not the strongest entity that exists. I lean on my prayer life and my network as much as possible. A lot of your spirituality will bleed into your business, which will show in your success.
