Shameka Burrell

Hi Shameka, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have felt a profound calling in my heart, a gentle whisper urging me to uplift and help others. This was not just a youthful dream; it was a divine mission that shaped my path forward. God had a special plan for me, intertwining the worlds of ministry and the marketplace to create a unique platform for my compassion and leadership. My parents were pivotal in molding this vision. My father taught me the value of hard work, proving every day that perseverance and dedication are the cornerstones of achieving meaningful goals.

My mother showed me how to treat everyone with fairness and kindness, her actions painting a vivid picture of grace and empathy in everyday life. Each choice I made was not only a step towards helping others but also a personal journey of faith and growth. My commitment to this path is a beautiful expression of my belief that one person, driven by faith and love, can indeed make a world of difference. This journey has not just been about fulfilling a duty; it has been about bringing my whole self , my hopes, dreams, and values to every action and interaction, inspiring everyone I touch to find deeper meaning and connection in their own lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to fulfilling my calling has been anything but smooth, yet I’ve never encountered anyone who believed the path to greatness was easy. Throughout my journey, I’ve learned that collaboration often masks competition, where others may see joint efforts as a race to outdo one another. Another profound struggles has been the constant reminder to myself that I deserve to be where I am because God called me to be here. This internal battle is about more than proving my worth to others; it’s about affirming to myself that my presence and contributions are divinely appointed. Every challenge on this path reinforces the notion that greatness is not just about overcoming obstacles but embracing them as necessary steps to reach the heights I’m meant to achieve.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When I felt the call from God to serve both in ministry and the marketplace, it seemed like a daunting task. Balancing these two worlds required me to develop a unique set of skills and a level of confidence that didn’t come naturally. At first, it was overwhelming to think about leading spiritually while also navigating the complexities of the business world. I had to learn to trust not only my abilities but also my purpose. Each day brought its own set of challenges, and with it, the opportunity to gain experience more assured in my roles. Prayer became my cornerstone, helping me find the courage to step forward even when I felt out of my depth. Slowly, with each small success and every hurdle overcome, I built the confidence needed to thrive in both my callings. It was a deeply personal journey, one where I learned to lean on my faith and the knowledge that I was exactly where I was meant to be, doing exactly what I was meant to do.

I founded a non-profit organization called Families Strengthening Families with the mission to support underserved families and their youth. Our goal is to provide resources, education, and support to strengthen these communities, helping them to overcome challenges and thrive. In addition to my role with the non-profit, I serve as the pastor of Discipleship Christian Faith Center. Here, we focus on helping individuals walk out their calling in God, and we equip them to teach others about the loving and saving power of Jesus Christ. All my roles are deeply fulfilling for me, as they allow me to live out my faith in practical, impactful ways, reaching out to those in need and guiding them towards a brighter, more hopeful future whether in the personal or business life.

What sets me apart in both the marketplace and ministry is the personal conviction that my work is more than just a job, it’s my calling. In the business world, I don’t just aim for profits; I strive to lead with integrity and kindness, help individual and business owner achieve financial success. In my ministry, I am committed to fostering a deep sense of community and spiritual growth, helping others find and fulfill their God-given purposes. My  roles are interconnected, each enhancing the other. This blend of faith and professional ability allows me to make a real difference, not just in my community but in touching individual lives. It’s this heartfelt dedication to impacting others that truly defines my journey and hopefully fulfill my purpose in who God called me to be.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
During the COVID-19 crisis, I found myself reevaluating what truly mattered in life. The pandemic was a harsh reminder of the fragility of our routines and plans, and it forced me to learn the importance of pivoting and resting, not just pushing through. As the world slowed down, so did I, and this slower pace opened my eyes to the invaluable role of family. I discovered that being present with my loved ones was more fulfilling than any financial gain. This period brought us closer together, and we found strength in our unity. It was a profound lesson in priorities. Family doesn’t just take precedence over money; it’s the foundation upon which everything else is built. Through this, I learned to hear God more clearly, embrace flexibility, cherish rest, and prioritize family, values that have since guided my decisions and brought a deeper sense of peace and purpose to my life.
