Daily Inspiration: Meet Shauna Hervey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauna Hervey.

Hi Shauna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The way Wifey Me! started was me constantly seeing old school morals and values decimate. I was raised by my Grandmother and some of trends that these young girls have adapted could have NEVER been me in my LIFETIME! With social media being so prevalent,
our young girls are losing their sense of reality to influencers. In 2019, I sat down with some of my friends and told them about this vision I had for a program to help them get “our” generation of normal back and they were just as excited as I was! So our Mentoring Program generally is to help young ladies become a better version of themselves. We teach them core values such as Cooking, Hygiene, Fashion, Self-Care, & Etiquette. We have them open up about childhood trauma in a nonjudgmental space that allows them to be heard. We have celebrities and guest speakers to come in and give them more of a reality of their life than what they see on Social Media. We started the program in 2020 pouring into 5 girls, now we have 25 young ladies on a weekly basis and we still have the originals that have stepped up to mentor some of the even younger girls. We have seen a lot of successful relationship prosper from our program. We had a Celebrity Stylist come in to speak and recruit one of our girls to be an assistant and they’ve since had the opportunity to style other celebrities, we’ve had an aspiring wig designer create and style wigs for a popular TV reality show , we had a young lady that aspired to be a Montessori teacher and we connected her with a women who is the 2nd to own a school in the state of Washington and she’s now certified and teaching. Last but least we had a mentee buy her very first house at the age of 19 due to us teaching financial literacy!.. We have so many awesome testimonies to talk about!

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the struggles that we have is accommodating all the young ladies that need us and are wanting to be apart of the program but we can’t due to room capacity. We are hoping to get a space large enough but still intimate and personal enough in the near future.

We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
In 2009, I was managing my son (platinum recording artist KCAMP) and being an active member serving the community since is primarily what I’m known for.

I retired from the music industry in 2020 to focus 100% on our non-profit CAMPSGIVING which has been my passion since childhood. I have a host of friends and family that has help me over the years in the community but i was blessed with 3 great sistahs DeAndrea Evans-Tolbert, Angel Gaines-Dingle and Safira Zayas that was just as elated about making an impact with the WifeyMe! Mentorship program but I didn’t have a curriculum. I mentioned it to DeAndrea and surprisingly (divinity) she had one she was about the throw away that was written 10 years prior for a vision she had working with young ladies in her previous profession as a boutique owner… so as God would have it, we got together and created the WifeyMe! concept added a few additional things and HERE WE ARE!

Angel who is literally an “Angel” had worked with me prior in the community but was a vet working with the youth in the inner city of Atlanta. Safira which conducts our “Hygiene” sessions (that the girls absolutely love) is a doula and herbalist and she is known in our community for her dedication to the Nation and her Loving nature bringing life into this world. I am proud of where we started in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic to we we are now in 2023. The experiences and the sisterhood that form through Wifey Me! are nothing short of AMAZING. We are different because each one of us has all of their best interest at heart and they all FEEL it. The mentors are available to these ladies and will travel near or far to support them in a crisis no matter what. Now That’s LOVE!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?

The only worldly risk I’ve taken was never having a plan. Spiritually there wasn’t any..I Trust God to navigate my steps through the process. I trust him to make sure that I have enough funds to cover the expenses… call me crazy but he’s never failed me and our program is GROWING! —
