Daily Inspiration: Meet Shawn Weir

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Weir.

Shawn Weir

Hi Shawn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an inspiring entrepreneur and mental health advocate whose passion for making a positive impact on society. This led me to create the clothing brand Good Vibez Only, LLC. (GVO). Born and raised in South Jamaica, Queens, as a first-generation American, I faced a share of challenges dealing with depression and anxiety. However, these adversities only fueled my determination to make a difference in the lives of others.

During my time as the Vice President of the Student Government Association (SGA) at Delaware State University, I was instrumental in advocating for the importance of a Mental Health Day on campus. Recognizing the pressing need to address the declining state of mental health, this experience sparked a profound redirection of my advocacy efforts.

In response to the growing mental health crisis, I founded Good Vibez Only, LLC. (GVO), a clothing brand with a powerful mission to raise Mental Health Awareness. Through vibrant designs and thought-provoking messages, Good Vibez Only, LLC. (GVO) serves as a catalyst for open conversations about mental health and works tirelessly to dismantle the stigma surrounding it.

My personal journey with mental health challenges has given me a unique perspective, allowing me to connect deeply with others facing similar struggles. By sharing my story and fostering a community of support, I have become a beacon of hope for countless individuals seeking strength and understanding. Especially with my Mental Health Community, House of Vibez, where we do an annual expo for entrepreneurs who are doing positive things in their community.

Through Good Vibez Only, LLC. (GVO), I have not only empowered others to embrace their vulnerabilities but has also inspired them to seek help and support. My unwavering dedication and vision for a mentally healthier world have earned me recognition as a transformative force in the mental health advocacy landscape.

As I continue to prosper through my mission, my dream of a society that prioritizes mental health and fosters empathy and understanding remains steadfast. My determination to create positive change through Good Vibez Only, LLC. (GVO) continues to touch hearts and minds worldwide, making me a true champion for mental health awareness and a source of inspiration for us all.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing up as a first-generation American from South Jamaica, Queens, brought about a unique set of challenges for me. Being raised by Caribbean parents who were unfamiliar with the American youth culture, I often found myself navigating between two worlds.

However, amidst the struggles, I discovered two powerful outlets that would shape my path to a better life – basketball and academics. Recognizing the opportunities they presented, I channeled my energy and emotions into excelling in these areas. Basketball became more than just a sport; it became a form of therapy, an escape from the challenges I faced daily. Academic achievements, too, served as a beacon of hope, paving the way for a brighter future, but my grades weren’t always the best.

I used basketball academics as catalysts to rise above the obstacles in his life. These outlets not only provided a path to success but also acted as tools for self-expression and personal growth. They allowed me to focus my energy on positive pursuits, helping me cope with the pressures and uncertainties that came with growing up in South Jamaica.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am currently an 8th Grade Science Teacher. I am known for my Mental Health Advocacy through my clothing brand GVO. I am most proud of my growth I have seen in everyone who has came into contact with GVO. I never thought I would have an impact or even a spot in the world to say I did something or even impacted someone, so to be able to say those things means a lot. Many people don’t make it when dealing with the same circumstances so being able to have tunnel vision and go to college, leaving NYC, becoming successful and not turning back has spoken enough for me.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
A book that changed my life was “What to say when you speak to yourself”, by Shad Helmsetter, which shaped the way I think and perceive many things in life. I also watch Social Proof & I AM ATHLETE Podcasts episodes that helped me in the beginning of my journey.
