Daily Inspiration: Meet Shayne Bacon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayne Bacon.

Shayne Bacon

Shayne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I first got into the scene, I had no idea that I’d become an EDM artist. I was going to go to the Imagine Music Festival back in 2018. 1 month prior to the festival, my friend Daryl, who I was going to go with, drowned at a Lake. This was going to be our first festival together and my first real EDM (Electronic Dance Music) experience and Daryl was going to guide me through it. I decided to still go with a friend last minute, we ran into some amazing people, and the rest was history. Over time, the EDM scene slowly began to be a huge part of my life, and I wanted more. It slowly began with an interest in creating my own playlist for the gym, and then it became an obsession, and before I knew it, I was playing at Believe Music Hall, and District, two of the biggest EDM nightclubs in Atlanta. Before EDM I felt lost, just going through the same routine over and over again, but now, I feel like I’ve found my purpose.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, it has been a VERY rough road. The first thing that any upcoming artist will run into is something we like to call Gatekeepers. Gatekeepers are people that will tell you something is good but not good enough to be taken seriously and that you need to keep working on it. Then you’ll have friends who will tell you this is the best song they’ve ever heard and that you should be posting it on Soundcloud and other platforms! Do I listen to my friends who are biased? Or do I listen to the Gatekeeper who might be helping me but also might be limiting my growth…

The next big challenge is money. Every artist is working another job to support this incredibly expensive business, and most of the time we’re making very little upfront. We do it for the exposure. We do it to get our name out there so that one day, maybe we can be the next Illenium, the next Tiesto, the next Kai Wachi.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Music Producer that specializes in making EDM music. I have my first EP coming out, Ground Zero and I’m staggering the songs every 2 weeks until the full EP is dropped.

I’m honestly most proud of my first break-up song, Memories. I was dating a girl at the time who made me pick between her or continuing to live in this “phase” of my life. So, I chose music, and that song has almost 10k plays on SoundCloud.

The thing that sets me apart from others in terms of sounds is that I’m still stuck in 2018. This is where I first discovered EDM and the sounds that literally made me feel alive. I incorporate a lot of melodic undertones and piano into my music, and it stems from that older style of EDM.

The thing that sets me apart from others, in terms of how I conduct myself, is that I’m always eating a piece of “humble pie.” There will ALWAYS be someone who is doing better than you, who has better sound design than you do. So, enjoy your own music journey and process and support those who are doing well.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being likeable and networking. I can’t stress this enough. There are some incredibly talented EDM artists out there, and most of them you’ll never hear about. They believe that their music will elevate them to the spotlight, and that’s all they will need to do to make it big. That might’ve been the case back in the day, but that is not the case anymore. You can’t just sit behind your computer and make amazing music. You have to get out there and expose yourself to promoters, fans, and other artists, and they have to like you. To be successful in 2024, you need to be a DJ, a producer, and an influencer to cut through the “white noise” of competition.

Also, just be a good person. People want to work with people they like.
