Daily Inspiration: Meet Sheena Townsend

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheena Townsend.

Hi Sheena, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My writing journey really started back in third grade. I remember my teacher , Ms. Allen, telling us to write a short story, and something in me just perked up. I typed it quickly, not even thinking too hard about it. I don’t remember what the story was about, but I do remember how my teacher responded. She gave me a good grade and told me I did a really good job — and that moment stayed with me.

From there, I kept writing. Over the years, I filled notebooks with short stories, always trying to recreate that feeling I had in third grade — that excitement, that freedom. As I grew, my writing grew too. Those short stories turned into poetry, unreleased plays and TV show concepts, a 31-day devotional, journals, and also my debut book, Chronicles of Sleeplessness.

Writing became more than just something I enjoyed — it became how I express myself. Through writing, I’m able to release the words I believe God has given me to say without having to use my voice to say them. It’s my safe space, my outlet, and one of the truest ways I tell my story.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. My writing journey has been pretty rocky, and honestly, most of the struggle has been internal.

A lot of it comes from my own insecurities. I constantly find myself asking questions like, “Is my work good enough?” or “Does anyone even care what I have to say?” Those thoughts show up more often than I’d like, and they can be really discouraging.

There are times when I feel truly inspired and I’ll sit down ready to write, but then those insecurities creep in. Once they do, the inspiration fades, and writing starts to feel heavy instead of natural. I’m also a bit of a perfectionist, so if I don’t feel like what I’m creating is exactly how it should be, I tend to stop altogether and not move forward.

It’s been a process of learning that growth doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from showing up, even when doubt is present. I’m still working through that, but I’ve learned that my voice has value, even when it doesn’t feel perfect in the moment.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a creative— inspired and led by God. Through prayer, I came to understand that creativity is not just something I do, it is who I am. I love creating with my hands and bringing ideas to life in meaningful ways.

I am a writer, baker, cook, hairstylist, party planner, treat maker, reader, and gift basket creator. What ties all of these together is my love for taking individual pieces and strategically placing them together to form a complete picture. I see the vision first, then I build it—thoughtfully and with purpose.

I named my business In Her Thoughts because I specialize in whatever I set my mind on. I truly believe that anything my mind can conceive, I do my very best to achieve. Every creation begins as a thought, and I take pride in transforming those thoughts into tangible experiences people can see, feel, and enjoy.

I am most known for my hairstyling and baking, but I am currently expanding and focusing more on sharing my writing and offering party planning and decorating services. Whether I’m planning a celebration, crafting words, styling hair, or creating custom treats, my goal is always the same: to create with intention, excellence, and heart.

What sets me apart is my versatility, my attention to detail, and my ability to blend creativity with purpose. I don’t just make things—I thoughtfully design experiences that reflect vision, care, and individuality.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe writing and authorship will continue to grow as more people find their voice and realize that what they have to say matters. God gives each of us a unique voice and purpose, and storytelling is one way many people are called to share that.

AI will definitely be used more in writing over the next five to ten years, especially as a tool for brainstorming, editing, and pushing past creative blocks. When used properly, it can be a helpful resource.

However, I don’t believe AI can replace genuine writers. True writing comes from God-given experiences, emotion, and perspective — things that can’t be replicated. The biggest shift will be learning how to use technology while staying rooted in authenticity, faith, and purpose.
